Former welterweight champion Andre Berto is ready to follow in the footsteps of his family members. He wants to explore his mixed martial arts roots, by entering the UFC. That's interesting, but why? So he can get paid less money?

He could probably be successful though if he puts all the effort in and trains in all the different disciplines. We'll just have to wait and see how this plays out.

He would make more money chasing a Khan fight. Less risk of injury as well.

Has Berto got any wrestling experience (he kinda got a wrestler build) or any belt in a martial art? I know his family gots some MMA competitors, but what experience does he have beyond boxing? He definitely needs to learn to sprawl & get some quality takedown defense or its curtains for him probably. He seems like he gots a low center of gravity so he might adapt a sprawl + develop a TDD easier than most. Also that mfer barely got a neck so might be hard to choke him out too. Should be interesting to watch him in MMA if he chooses to take the dive.

He's been losing a lot. He might get comparable or better money in the UFC right now. With Jon Jones likely getting suspended for 2-4 years the UFC could use a potential name or two popping up asap cuz the UFC is the Conor & GSP show right now & GSP is rumored to only be fighting 1 to 3 fights & Conor has been gone all year so far,

That's very true. He's in the wrong division in boxing for him to succeed at this point in his career, but 145/155 in the UFC isn't nearly as stacked as boxing's WW division. He's basically a gatekeeper in boxing at this point. The UFC definitely needs more names, just a question of if Dana/WME IMG would be willing to pay what he wants and how long it would take him to get ready/fully trained etc.

Dunno if make less money is true.

It's only a handful of superstar boxers who make more than the top UFC guys. UFC is like a gradual gradient... In boxing you go from titlist to fighting for free very abruptly. A cliff.

There's a clear market for crossover fights no matter how ****** they are.

Berto needs to stay in his lane or he could get seriously hurt.
