Jacobs - should be at 168 at least
Lemiuex - Struggles to make 160
Murray - Fought at super middleweight
Willie Monroe Jr - WBO middleweight challenger
Stevens - Fought at light heavyweight and super middleweight

Where are all these smaller guys coming up from below 160? Kel Brook was a last minute fill in because Chris Eubank Jr (Supermiddleweight) failed to sign. Canelo is actually coming from 164.5.

Ward hasn't made 168 since 2013. Just used GGG's burgeoning popularity to keep his name in the public eye. He was never really an option. Its a good business move by Ward but he knew the fight with GGG wouldn't happen because they would never meet at weight that would work for both sides.

But I hope there was no choice other than Brook that moment, because negotiations were almost completed, Arena 02 was booked, and there was no time to start new negotiations with another promotion. There was very little time left until september 10. Otherwise he could lose his date like it was against Jacobs.
Well if there was no other issues than yea Lara would have been a better opponent. But Lara is like Andre Ward in that he talks all kinds of ***** about GGG from a different weight class. The difference is that its easier to jump up in weight that to drop down especially for someone as inactive as Ward had been. Lara has no excuses. He struggled to get the big names at 154 to fight him (Cotto, Canelo rematch) and trains with a couple other top 154lbers (the Charlo brothers). So why not move up.

GGG could have moved up as well but he was going for the middleweight title defense record and has a whole boatload of talented young fighters who were destined to move up to his weight class. If he could capture all the belts they would have to go through him to become a champion at 160. It made sense for him to stay at 160. Lara was just wasting time.

BJS is on record as saying he didn't want to fight GGG so you can't consider him a reliable source.

You just have to watch the Brook-Golovkin weigh-in again to see no part of Golovkin wanted to be there (compare it with the Jacobs weigh-in where he was at least there mentally).

While it was pretty obvious Golovkin was disinterested in the Brook fight, its a stretch to say 'regains interest' given his last fight was Jacobs, and there was no sign he wasn't fully engaged mentally in that fight.

For sure Canelo is a bigger fight (in terms of box-office and legacy), so you can guarantee both are going to be 100% up for it, but was he really less focused with Jacobs ? Its possible the delay in the Jacobs fight and the alleged dodging from Saunders and Canelo bugged him, what is certain is that his activity level fell off from his stated preference of 4 fights per year.

Anyway, no excuses from either, may the best man win.

I remember people started spreading rumors that he had caught the flu. I'll admit that I entertained that idea as well. He didnt even crack a smile just weighed in and left immediately afterwards didnt speak to anyone after he got off the scales.

I listened to an interview recently were Sanchez said that they knew they were gonna catch heat for the Brook fight as they did for his mando vs Wade, but with O2 already being booked and GGG already in camp they couldnt just scrap everything all together. Not to mention it was GGG's biggest pay day til the fight in Sept.

Besides Jacobs, he's fought mediocre middleweight contenders who were never expected to give him a challenge. Aside from that, the only names he's been mentioning for the past few years are Canelo, Pacquiao, and Mayweather, neither of whom had ever fought at 160 yet. Golovkin's team even offered to fight at 154 if they could get Floyd or Manny, but they would only fight Canelo at 160. Andre Ward was still an option at 168 during that time, but that fight never interested Golovkin.
