  • Comments Thread For: Dana White Doesn't Want More UFC Fighters to Try Boxing

LAS VEGAS As surprisingly competitive as Conor McGregor was at times against Floyd Mayweather Jr., Dana White was in no mood to entertain the idea of other UFC fighters trying boxing. When asked during the press conference following McGregor's 10th-round technical knockout loss to Mayweather how UFC heavyweight champion Miocic Stipe would fare against a heavyweight boxer, White wouldn't even consider it. UFC's president made it clear that he made an exception for McGregor to box Mayweather because it was such a lucrative, well-received event, yet he has not plans to allow more UFC fighters to take that route.

Aw, c'mon Dana, let McGregor face Canelo next! It won't be as big as Floyd, but it will be HUGE! Oscar will play nice! He'll even dress up for you if you like. Let Oscar slip into something more comfortable, and y'all break bread, and then seal the deal! Canelo vs. McGregor in Las Vegas, January 2018! Make it happen!

Understandably Dana doesn't want UFC fighters to get their asses handed to them. He said no right away when Anderson Silva wanted to fight a shot Roy Jones back in 09.

He knew they would get a huge cut from Conor fighting Floyd and he probably was delusional enough to think that Conor would have lasted the distance. So they made an exception for that fight.

He'd rather have a washed up a boxer like James Toney and a WWE guy with zero fights like CM Punk "test" themselves in the UFC.

Canelo won't be recovered from the beating GGG is going to give him by Jan. Throw McTapout in with any top 10 boxer his size and let's all have a laugh at what happens.

You had no problem inviting a 42 year old brain damaged James Toney to UFC though. He knows boxers are superior. If a MMA fighter don't take a boxer down within the first 45seconds of the fight. Then they have no chance.

LOL no sh^t thats what Dana wants. The bigger question is what does Conor want & maybe most important how much does he wanna get paid for what he wants. Interestingly Conor said at the post-fight presser or a post-fight interview that he's a free agent now. Idk if he was just saying sh^t or if he's legit feeling like he is & can fight MMA or box or whatever now. Some have speculated that his boxing license voids his UFC contract & in general sports lawyers believe UFC contracts to be illegal as they have no end date for title holders. Thats a whole other thing doe, but I suspect there are out of the cage headlines in Conor & the UFC's future.

Oh & where is that Zuffa Boxing, the UFC is gonna move into boxing guy at now lol? Although in fairness to him Conor did talk about some "hybrid" sport between MMA & Boxing that maybe his next move that could be random bs he was being super speculative about or it could be a real thing cuz I've suggested a BKB like sport with cage fighting with MMA gloves + boxing rules would be fun as f#ck to watch.

True. Fans seeing UFC fighters getting KTFO by boxers would damage Dana's brand.

Floyd is - or was - a great boxer, but not a destructive puncher, above 135lbs. Dana probably expected Conor to go the distance, then he could play the "How long do you think Floyd would last against Conor in the octagon?" card.

But Conors lack of stamina and heart let him down.

I heard it because the UFC fighters are banding together to create like a union and get some laws passed like the boxing has.

UFC doesnt have to disclose any amount to any fighter, no numbers nothing. In boxing you have to its the law.

Dana white and ufc contracts says they cant box or do any other type of stuff liek that and ufc has exclusivity but when conor got his boxing license against dana white wishes he now was protected by the ali act and conor could do what he wanted.

if conor wants to switch sports then he needs to stop making ****** statements about boxing. he said after the fight it didn't feel like losing a fight, felt more like losing a football match etc. this is not smart, he needs to respect boxing or stay in the ufc and stfu. if he gets a good trainer like garcia he could be a good boxer actually, i'm sure of that. and a new conditioning coach too
