Yes, Cotto was from Puerto Rico and he had them on his back but Crawford is American and Puerto Rico is a very small place compared to America. Loma is white and he has skills, shouldn't he have a bigger gathering? Or is it due to the fact that both lack personality? I can't even say that because Cotto never had a big personality. So, what's the problem?
loma is getting more exposure because of his skin color. even though he's not white american, he's close enough so he gets a pass from them. cotto got the PR to back him up. and crawford? most americans dont even root for him, most blacks (non boxing fans) dont even care about the guy.
What are we suggesting makes one a superstar in boxing exactly? To me 1M PPV buys or more once or for sure on multiple occasions makes one a superstar & beyond that idk what else thats a clear line in the sand says you are a superstar in boxing. Maybe a 8 figure payday I suppose.
And honestly anyone who's making 6 digit paydays is doing pretty f#cking alright in boxing to be making $100k+ every fight.
But going by the $10M+ payday, 1M PPV buy superstar threshold I think its highly unlikely Loma & Crawford reach that level in the game. I think Loma gots the harder road as a lil guy who's from another country as only Manny & Lennox crossed that threshold in the US as foreigners. And Crawford seems to lack much appeal to anyone outside of Nebraska with his persona or attention getting style of boxing.
Cotto has faced the biggest names in the business, which in turn elevate his name and status. He's also an entertaining fighter and a very good one. I think Loma will get there eventually, his style is very fan-friendly and if he can get the right opponents in the ring with him his star will rise to the top.
Crawford needs to move to 147 and clean it out in order to be recognized and get the glory that Cotto has enjoyed. He needs big wins over the likes of Thurman, Spence, Garcia etc. He can't move to 147 and expect to build his name off of Horn, a shot Pacquiao, or the gatekeepers of the division like Berto, Vargas or Peterson.
Cotto gave KOes and got hurt plenty of times which made them fan friendly fights. Loma puts a clinic but the audience that likes that is smaller. Crawford just got to keep going, he is already a star in his residence area in it is just a matter of time.
Loma needs a couple of big name match ups to put himself on that higher earning level.
Mikey Garcia with that layoff lost a lot of momentum, he should had been a big star already

Why do people assume that just because Lomo is white that white people will support him? I'm a white guy from the Midwest and I don't view Loma as a white guy like me. Floyd Mayweather is more of my people than Loma.
And why does this only happen to white people? You never hear people ask why Sergio Martinez wasn't a bigger draw in Mexico? I mean cmon he's brown too. Don't all brown people support each other?
