The way Cleverly's career went was a big disappointment to me. When he was with Enzo Calzaghe he was a boxer/mover who did a lot of work behind the jab at long range.
He was very effective fighting like that, but after KO'ing a few domestic level guys, he and his dad got it into their heads that Nathan had world class power and should be coming forward, applying pressure, and looking to KO everybody he fought. His dad took over as head coach and tried to do the same thing with Cleverly as Enzo did with his son.
They thought Cleverly/Kovalev was going to be Calzaghe/Lacy~2, hence the disastrous game plan employed.
His dad bowed out as coach after that train wreck, but Nathan is still swarming forward taking one to land one.
Nobody should be ridiculed for giving him a chance against Jack at 175. It all depends how Jack handles the step up in weight.
