Man this thread has been around for ages.

I'll repeat what I said before, Hagler did not do what many other mw champions had done before and that was fight the best at lhw. He spent years moaning Leonard wouldnt fight him...a man with one good eye who had been away for years. Thats not to take away from Hagler the great mw but it leaves a lot to be desired and why numerous others would be ranked above him.

Heck, he could have faced Spinks, even if he had lost, he could have come back down and defended his mw belts.

Hagler however, was rolling in a lot of money in the mw division and probably thought hed pick up a big payday against small leonard.

I disagree I think becoming undisputed champ and holding div hostage for 7yrs is more impressive then moving up and cherrt picken titles. And I get your point on Spinks but some guys have bodys more suited to weight hoping(Hearns)some don't like I believe to give recent example Tank Davis

I understand "cherry picking titles" and I agree, I dont really regard people like Broner and even worse, Guerrero as multi weight champs BUT it was pretty difficult to cherry pick titles when Hagler was MW.

Hagler won his belts in 1980, SPinks won the WBA a year later and by 83 had solidified himself as THE lhw on the planet.

That would have been THE time for MW champ v LHW champ and would do nothing but enhance Haglers legacy, which going 15 with Duran didnt really do.

Heck if the fight happened a couple years later in 85, when Hagler only fought once, he would have been fighting for all the marbles.

So there were definite legacy defining and monetary moments for Hagler to move up. He refused to do so and it hurts him. Although I disagree that he didnt challenge himself as the op puts it.

Just wasn't realistic at the time so the demand never came for that fight even though Spinks did call him out partly because Hagler was the man at the time so yeah by mentioning Hagler it got writers and fans attention I'm sure but it was never realistic
floyd faught bigger men his entire career. some fighters have balls some dont. but hagler is no floyd and will be remembered as such in the atg rankings.

calling out welterweights, refusing to fight above 160. its daja vu all over again with GGG. If hagler wasnt still alive I would think he was reincarinated as the next chicken middleweight champ in GGG

Bring a threat to Hagler, and the fight is made in minutes.

Bring a threat to Floyd, and the fight isn't made, for years.

Both are in the same vicinity atg-wise.
