I didn't think he had it in him. Congratulations Mexico!

Ive just watched the fight. Good performance, but not totally convinced.

He seems to have good power, Yamanaka was bothered by every punch Nery was throwing.
Nery has an awkwardness to him, but he missed really bad more than a couple times and has a tendency to throw very wide punches.
A better counterpuncher could have used it against him.
Lets see how he progresses. Bantamweight is wide open right now. Would really like to see Zolani Tete in a big fight.

Yeah he didn't really show much guile in setting up his shots, but I guess he didn't need to thanks to Yamanaka's leaky defence

              That was a great fight.

The Mexican has one hell of a chin, he was caught clean a few times and ate them like tic tacs.

The Japanese fighter had no idea what to do when hurt, tried to fight fire with fire and it was his demise.

I think thats harsh. He does throw wide but also has the ability to catch opponents off guard with quick powerful straights. Those right hand that came straight down the pipe were catching Yamanaka at will.

When you are rugged and powerful like that you can get away with being a bit crude imo

Bittersweet moment for me... I love Luis Nery's style and always believed in him but I've always followed Yamanaka closely as well. It sucks because Yamanaka gave his all and went out on his shield. What a rollercoaster.

It was probably simply a case of the right style at the right time, Yamanaka had started to get knocked down in fights of late. I'm not entirely convinced by Nery either but he should definitely be in fun fights.

It really goes to show how few people on this forum actually watch the full spread of the sport when a long time champion has his nearly 6 year reign ended and yet so few people comment upon it. Too busy arguing about that freak show that is Mayweather-McGregor.

This year feels like an end of an era kind of year, Yamanaka the latest to likely end up in retirement.
