Probably second to Duran-Hearns in physical mismatches.
No. Absolutely not second. Duran Hearns was a mismatch of stature - of size. Nothing else. Floyd was bigger than Marquez and way, WAAAAAAAYYYY more athletic, quicker, more agile - times ten.
Marquez JUMPED from 135 to 147 in one go. When Marquez fought at welterweight 3 years later he already assimilated in the weight since the weight gain was gradual instead of instant. Golovkin doesn't get credit for beating Brook who jumped from 147 to 160, and Floyd doesn't get credit for beating Marquez who jumped from 135 to 147.
Prime Sergio vs. Floyd at 154 would have been one of the best boxer-boxer/puncher match-ups of all time. I am still disappointed in Lou DiBella for not shouting for this fight all day every day, like Briggs with Klitschko. Like Hatton with Floyd, as a matter of fact. And Briggs would have gotten that fight if not for the Fury fight coming together.
Marquez had just moved up from 130 to 135 then had to skip 140 and fight at WW .... but it gets even better. Marquez was preparing for a certain agreed upon weight while Floyd came in at whatever he felt like and just PAYED OFF to do so.
Also, remember that Marquez is a great counter puncher but Floyd takes few chances in there, so of course, Marquez is not going to look his best.
