Rigo vs Loma Dec. '17 - Rigo Invited on ZonaESPN To Make Statement

Yea thats not a good situation when something is getting pushed back like that. I didn't even realize that was the problem til much later in the night. I thought they planned it like that (I was watching on mute cuz the UFC had a better card the same night). If ESPN wants to be in serious discussions for any more big fights they better up their commitment level and not pre-empt a fight with some other sporting event nonsense like a HOF induction ceremony. Fights need to start be shown at a reasonable hour too. 9:30 start time on the west means 12:30 on the east coast. They need to start the main event no later than 8:00PM.
Not sure how much control over this sorta sh^t they have. I mean I assume they gotta show a certain amount of loyalty to whatever they are showing before boxing too. Might even be some sort of TV ethics with showing the ending of a sport that they started showing too or something. The Heidi rule or something.
Idk but you definitely aren't wrong that they need to be more reasonable about when fights start & end if they wanna make this as big of a success as they could.Comment

Does anyone who owns a promotion even buy out another promotion? I can't recall of that happening although I gotta figure it has happened.
I know Haymon tried to buy out GBP. I believe Roc Nation tried to buy out Gary Shaw when they were first entering boxing. But largely it seems like other promoters just choose to let failing promoters to die or get out of the business & pick their roster like vultures.
Wonder if selling to another promoter would void all contracts or something & maybe thats the issue?Comment

It seems like it should happen. Like any other industry it make sense to consolidate. That's why I'd say sell out stat before the value of your contracts become worthless. With the HBO pie shrinking all the time, it doesn't make much sense to fight it out over scraps when you could monetize your current fighter contracts in a sale now. In any other business sale, the new owner must honor all existing contracts, so yes they are transferable.Does anyone who owns a promotion even buy out another promotion? Main Events doesn't have much of value, tbh about it.
RocNation, on the other hand, has Andre Ward and a nice handful of prospects that they're bringing along.
Make the Lomachenko fight for Rigondeax if you can, but I still see RocNation taking their package of fighters and leveraging it (formally or informally) into a deal with Showtime/PBC.
Ward-Stevenson (Canadian PPV, possibly US PPV, and Sky Sports), Ward-Bellew (Showtime/Sky Sports),
Derevyanchenko-Arias for the IBF 160lb belt, Rigo-Mares (if Mares gets beat by LSC, the matchup gets Mares another big opportunity, and gives Rigo a name opponent to fight), etc.Comment

It all depends on what you're buying
Al Haymon was seemingly looking to buy Golden Boy Promotions for the sheer infrastructure and Schaefer, for the most part.Does anyone who owns a promotion even buy out another promotion? I can't recall of that happening although I gotta figure it has happened.

Oscar balked, Haymon still ended up with all of the fighters, and has been able to get the infrastructure pretty well settled with his small handful of promotional operators (with the work largely falling on DiBella, Tom Brown, Marguiles, Michel, Ellerebe, and Schaefer).
RocNation, with money in hand, basically made a similar play for talent/infrastructure, Gary Shaw balked, and they're slowly building their own infrastructure.Comment

Yea I understand he was buying the brand basically. I think that would have drastically altered the narrative of PBC too & they'd look a lot different then they do today because of it + have more mainstream support. Kinda effed that didn't happen as PBC has ran into wall after wall in many ways with what they wanted to do + Schaefer got kicked to the curb for awhile.Al Haymon was seemingly looking to buy Golden Boy Promotions for the sheer infrastructure and Schaefer, for the most part.

Random question for anyone, does anyone recall a promoter buying out some other promoter? Legit curious about this now & I can't really think of anyone off the top of my head who actually did buy out a promotional entity, but I gotta figure its happened at some point.Comment
