All these bum talks. You see guys like Julio Cesar Chaves Sr with over 100 fights 90% of those beating bums and people worship this guy like the greatest thing ever. But people don't give Lomachenko a break. The dude beat rocky martinez, walters(#3 p4p at the time), and gary russel(imo the best featherweight). Not only he beat them he made them look like bums. This guy make bums look like bums and elite boxers look like bums.

When floyd started his career he fought a bunch of bums before fighting for the belt.

The old fighters that fought twice or more a month instead of twice a year? Fighters fighting two/three times year haven't got time to fight bums. Lomachenko is 29 and in his prime, he should be seeking the best opponents he can.

You do realize Chavez sr gets tons of **** for all his "taxi drivers" he fought? but he fought some great competition too.

Lomachenko on the other have shown no desire to step up his competition. In fact its like Salido shell shocked him cause since then he's competition been slowing declining. He went from Salido, GRJ, to Jason Sosa and Marriaga.

If you fight 4-6 times a year & fight 50% "bums" its entirely different than if you fight 2 times a year & fight 50% "bums". Cmon man this is basic sh^t.

That means the old timer is fighting 2-3 legit guys a year vs just 1 for the new school cat. As a spectator which sounds more appealing to you?

You must have Walters mixed up with Rigondeaux who entered the p4p list after beating Donaire, but I'm not even sure if Rigo was ranked as high as #3.

I can't remember Walters ever being on any top 10 p4p list, but he may or may not have been towards the bottom around #9 or #10. But even he was on the list, he lost that status way before fighting Lomachenko due to inactivity and ****ty performances post-Donaire.

And to answer the question, a lot of champions from the older generation fought bums in between their big title fights to stay active and earn that extra money.

That's why people refer to Chavez as a throwback fighter because that's exactly what he did. He fought great competition, ex-champions and top contenders, but his record was "padded" because of the hometown fights against local fighters that he took in between all of his real fights. For example, he fought only a month after he fought Whitaker, fought again the next month, then Frankie Randall just another month later.

Fighters make way more money these days, no need to work overtime with the money they get now. Chavez just did it because he loved to perform for his Mexican fans. That's the reason why fighting bums and no hopers gets heavily criticized these days when boxers are only fighting 2-3 times a year.
