I think he lost his motivation. A younger motivated Lewis would not have got into the ring out of shape. That was a sign that he wasn't as serious.

Then why did he try and get a fight with Roy Jones ?And rematch M.Tyson who declined ? The truth is it took Lewis 6 months to retire after he fought Vitali and than saw his performance against Johnson and called it quits bc he didnt think Vitali would be back in action so soon and Lewis was forced to rematch him at that point of mandatory status .

So lets do the math here .

Lewis promised Vitali a rematch . He then goes on to state he has 3 fights left and one is Wlad Klitchko . He doesnt get Tthe RJJ or Tyson fights sees Vitali fight and calls it quits .

Lewis knows Vitali will actually have a full camp and the short notice fight Lewis admitted it gave him the edge bc of experience . He did not actually win had it went to the scorecards .....nothing but a moral victory which may have put doubt in his mind .

Did he duck Vitali ? Well obviously !

That's very possible. But it's also my point. He lost his motivation to go through the rigors of training camp and what was sure to be a hard fight. He had nothing left to prove at least to himself. The fans? Some will never be happy.

You certainly do have something to prove when you already have promised something ,on top of that losing in a fight you won by default and even TRYING to make other fights AFTER that one but than get cold feet when Vitali is a forced fight on you . lol

Lewis also admitted he never fought anyone bigger than him that gave him that much trouble . What more motivation would one need ? Its an obvious duck to the point even Steward told him he owed it to himself to finish his career with no doubts ....................its pretty clear !

I dont penalise Lewis in overall personal rankings bc i would have Vitali winning anyway .

I think it would have been a bloodbath no matter who won. Both guys took some hellacious shots in that fight.

Both are very equally hard to fight and get a win off of.
