the high guard ****ing sucks. maybe someone will have some old fighter back in the dark ages who used it well, but to me every time i see it its a **** fighter using it to avoid getting whooped.

Arthur Abraham, Ronald Winky Wright, Micheal Watson (To use the high guard effectively, you have to have very strong and rigid arms! Otherwise this style is completely useless, and fighters will break through your guard with power!)...

off the top of my head:

Arthur Abraham, Winky Wright, Andrej Kotelnik, Felix Sturm, Marco Huck, Joshua Clottey, Omar Narvaez.

Is very useful when you can time the opponent with a laser jab, but doesnt really work, when you dont throw back lol.

The high guard only works when you use your jab properly

Never been a fan of the high guard, it technically doesnt make sense to block your vision but as others stated Winky Wright is the best in recent memory. IMO you have to have great reflexes to prefect that stance/defense, and its nothing something you just learn halfway through a boxing career.

So what was Broner thinking when he's on high guard almost throughout the fight, while Garcia was on offense?
That right there just means one has more confidence than the other.
The other guy has given up way too early already.
What makes these high guard proponents think it's impenetrable?
Who still trains their fighters use it as the main strategy?
When I see it, I immediately think it's over.
Just imagine using it against Crawford, for instance, or the Charlo brothers.
              Or Golovkin.
Might as well stop the fight in the second round.
Believe me you're just wasting time and it would be a pitiful sight.

Broner's problem isn't his defensive stance, its the fact that he goes turtle shell mode too often when his opponents apply a lot of pressure. He gets gun shy and he sucks at fighting on the inside. As long as he has this problem he will continue to get his ass kicked.

High Guard is a good technique if you know an opponents style, and what the training camp as well as other sparring partners or bouts, you can acquire feedback on how the other person can hit, or hard they can hit down the middle.

Broner is very good with walking dudes down using the high guard. I like when Thurman used his high guard against Swift Garcia bullying him to the ropes, he didn't respect Garcia's power in the early half. It think Thurman just felt a different style later on.

As I said already, Mikey Garcia imo isn't a hard puncher at 140-147 against elites.
