    Comments Thread For: Adrien Broner-Mikey Garcia: Good Fight, Rewards Later

    By Cliff Rold - It's not clear anyone was asking to see it before it was signed. At the beginning of 2017, 29-year old Mikey Garcia (36-0, 24 KO) was preparing for a crack at the WBC 135 lb. title. His ultimately successful challenge of Dejan Zlaticanin was his second fight back after being out of the ring for two and a half years from 2014-16. Business issues subtracted a healthy piece of his prime. Garcia looked good picking up where he left off...

    I am a fan of both. I have Mikey winning by stoppage in the late rounds. People talk about Mikeys resume but he fought top fighters at his weight class. Take away the Porter and Maidana fights (Broner lost) and I think they have an even resume. I dont understand how people are saying Mikey is basic. I wonder what they will say If he wins Saturday.

      Mikey Garcia's record is not (36-0, 24 KO) but (36-0, 30 KO) KO ratio -> 83%

        Mikey is rising with the odds. Might be time to bet on Broner so some cash.

          I'm taking Garcia in a good fight. Rolling with my first instincts, as the longer I think about fights the more trouble I get into.

          It's funny how I can sometimes talk myself out of predicting the winning fighter. I've learned to stop doing that by just picking the guy that I immediately think is going to win instead of pondering the decision for weeks which just seems to muddle things up for me. Trinidad/Hopkins, Tyson/Lewis, Mayweather/Corrales - these were just a couple of fights that taught me this lesson.

            Should be a good fight but I hope Garcia knocks the stuffing out of the big mouth Adrian Broner, Broner is a physically gifted wanna be gangster who like any bully folds when he has to actually fight.

              Broner at 160 lbs fight nite will be too big for little Mikey Garcia

              Broner is a stuffed turkey in a chickens body just overstuffed and bursting. Broner will be to big for the little Mikey Garcia. Broner wins the fight and wears down the smaller better Mikey Garcia.

                In situations like this, where one man agrees to come back down to a division he outgrew in the past, with a financial penalty if he misses weight, I always wonder if there is an upper weight limit in his opponents mind, which would cause him to turn down the extra money and withdraw if the heavier man reaches it?

                  ... Garcia may be regarded, in terms of skill, to be as good or better than Maidana and Porter... but they are both bigger and awkward...

                    Garcia or any other can't really withdraw as they could and probably would be subject to lawsuits for costs, lost earnings and damages from promoters, fight venue, sponsors etc. It would have to be a water tight contract to avoid all of that.

                    Then in addition the damage to that fighter's reputation would be considerable going forward. Not to say it can't happen but definitely gives pause for thought.
