Of course it's a martial art and a damn good one. If you think it isn't then why are you wasting your time on a boxing board? Kimbo Slice, a not very good heavyweight boxer made dozens of videos of himself beating local street fighting champs using only legal boxing blows and nothing else. Boxing is just as effective as any other fighting art and it works in the street too. I watch the UFC fights every chance I get. Some of those fights are just boxing matches with smaller gloves. They could kick or throw elbows and knees or wrestle if they wanted to but both fighters prefer to box.

            That's a dumb question.

Of course it's a martial art. The most famous martial art and one of the most important ones.

Any fighter is seriously handicapped if he/she can't throw the hands

You don't call them a martial artist because you call them a boxer and everyone already knows a boxer is a martial artist. You call a wrestler a wrestler. You call a kick boxer a kick boxer, a judo expert a judo expert and so on. Boxing is a fighting art. It isn't a game of chess or tennis or a pillow fight. I don't understand what point you are trying to make but it doesn't sound very kind to boxing. It's as if you are saying boxing doesn't count as a real martial art.

It is the ultimate martial art in my opinion. Here's why:
Human's natural weapons are their fists. I've observed that even some 10 months old baby girls, 2 y.o. boys clenching their fists and punching their moms or dads ^^ .
I've trainded the Southern Chinese Martial Arts for some 3 years prior to boxing, southern c.m.arts are identical with Okinawan Karate (one of the oldest and well preserved styles of Karate, no kindergarten fitness shid). And in these arts
1- they do not kick unless they have to
2- they do not kick above the waist
3- they just kick the balls and push kick on the knees.
4- they always say when you are kicking you are off the ground and off balance. If the opponent grabs your leg he can break it, take you down and finish you. If you get punched when you are kicking you get grounded. Here is what Nick Diaz has to say about boxing, he is a pro-boxing guy, he trains just boxing and brazilian wrestling.

So Nick says they can of course kick you or clinch you , but once you learn how to check a kick and break a clicnh you go to fundementals, boxing.

so youve always considered boxers to be a martial artists? didnt think so buddy.

google great martial artists and see you how many boxers you find.

people aint thinking logically. cause its a self defence, it has to be a martial art? also people say first and foremost its a sport.

what boxers in the history have been called a great martial artist. they are called great boxers.

im arguing a point that boxers have never been called martial artists.

if you look up great martial artists you will not find a boxer. simple. and im not saying its not a form of marial art. but why aint they being called one like a great martial artist like a judo champion, or even a kick boxer.

is it cause boxing has soo many rules, and its limited. you can only use fists.

go on google put in 'martial art list'.

where boxing though? should they add boxing? are google ******?

they have wrestling and not boxing. thats lewis uppercut to boxing imo.

                    hahahaaaa

haha, they even have fencing as a martial art. not boxing. boxing nowhere to be seen.

even if you say no, you aint wrong. but if you say no, you can still argue that it is.
