  • Comments Thread For: Maybe there are worse things in boxing than Mayweather-McGregor

By Tris Dixon - AUGUST 26 hangs over boxing like an angry storm cloud. The occasional bolt of Floyd Mayweather-Conor McGregor lightning will hit the headlines from now until fight week and then the rain or the money will pour into Las Vegas before Sin City can go back to sleep the next day. Those who have visited Nevada to see a curious event featuring two A-listers will return to their more mundane existences, with memories of a tumultuous few days in the desert behind them...

That turned out to be a good fight to watch actually. I was one of the many people slamming the fight and I missed the live broadcast but I saw the replay. And it actually turned out to be a way better fight than I thought.

Hopefully we will get the same with Mayweather-McGregor and Cotto-Kamegai.

I'm laughing at all the idiots that will pay money for this sh.it show...sad. What's funny is that everyone keeps claiming how much money this fight makes but I've yet to meet anyone that's said they would buy this lol

The judging, and the fact some fighters can make great careers while avoiding the best in their division, just pummeling bums and people they think they can beat for a pretty long time and get away with it.

In Deontay Wilder we have a champion who no one knows whether is really good or **** average because he’s not faced a top opponent; this is a champion who has now reigned for almost three years and made five defences. Boxing has allowed him to become a mainstay kingpin without one true test.

                The title of this reads:

"Maybe there are worse things in boxing than Mayweather-McGregor"

I have a problem with this:

That "fight" IS NOT BOXING. It's a charade. A circus act.

It's almost like having Pacquiao fight a WWE wrestler or a taekwondo fighter in a "boxing fight." It's just like mixing pears and apples like they were the same thing.

So there's NO JUSTIFICATION to this infamy.

                It is not boxing.

Also, scheduling this CRAP EVENT three weeks before the real boxing event of the year, GGG vs. Canelo, is a clear ****ty move by this disgusting fellow Floyd, to directly affect the financial outcome of the REAL BOXING FIGHT, diminish the magnitude and net sales of the event, and all this because the idiot is jealous that he will not be the "star" on a date that should have never been "his" in the 1st place, such as Mexican Independence Day.

There's no justification for this garbage event, period. And those who will buy it instead of GGG-Canelo ARE NOT BOXING FANS. They are just posers, pretend-fans of boxing. And I don't think they are MMA fans either, because this "event" is just as insulting to their sport as well.

Those who will buy that circus act crap (boxing vs. MMA in a "boxing" match) AND will buy GGG vs. Canelo as well, could be considered semi boxing fans.

And of course the ones who will COMPLETELY IGNORE the farce in August, not even caring about the "result" which will obviously be a pre-arranged "victory" by the "boxer," and are avid to pay the PPV fee for the REAL FIGHT GGG-Canelo, those are the REAL BOXING FANS.

And BTW, who is the author of this article I am replying to? I tried to find some info about him on the web and I failed. I just found out that he is the new editor of a well-known boxing publication, he has no Wikipedia page yet, and since the publication seems to be British, I assume he is British as well, so I have NO IDEA on whether or not he is being paid to promote that bull-crap "fight" by writing a ridiculous article like the one I am replying to, trying to justify it as not such a damaging thing for boxing.

not hating may (big may fan) or mcbeggar (i hate this cvnt) BUT this is the shlttiest PROFESSIONAL fight ever.

its pure sideshow being marketed as something meaningful.

may got shlt for ''retiring'' with berto, would have gotten shlt unless he came back and fought 3g.

''if im going to be hated ANYWAY, i might as well make the most money possible.''
