Actually Mayweather retired after Baldomir. But guess what? He came back for DLH, not Margarito or Williams.

Floyd then fought DLH and because Ricky Hatton called him out in an interview, guess what? He called Ellerbe and told him make the fight. But it gets better. When asked about fighting Cotto, why did Mayweather say he was retiring only to negotiate a rematch with Dr La Hoya?

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. -- After Floyd Mayweather Jr. easily outpointed Carlos Baldomir to win the welterweight championship in November 2006, he stood at the podium at the post-fight news conference and broke down in tears as he stunningly announced his retirement from boxing.

Despite the emotional outpouring, few believed Mayweather was serious, rather that he had simply been overcome by the moment.

Less than two months later, Mayweather agreed to face Oscar De La Hoya. In May 2007, Mayweather outpointed him in a fight that shattered all boxing revenue and pay-per-view records. After beating Ricky Hatton in December, plans were in motion for Mayweather-De La Hoya II to take place Sept. 20.

In retiring, Mayweather leaves behind several potential major fights, including one against the winner of next month's welterweight title bout between Miguel Cotto and Antonio Margarito, both of whom are promoted by Arum.

"If you don't want to take the risk and you don't have to take the risk why would you want to fight a Cotto or a Margarito and subject yourself to risk when you don't have to do that?" said Arum, who has often ripped Mayweather for his reluctance to face either man.

Ellerbe said Mayweather came to his decision over the past few days and was leaving for a vacation with his kids on Friday after making the announcement.

"He just told me he was retiring and I said, 'OK.' He had already made up his mind. He did it his way, not everybody else's way," Ellerbe said. "Floyd is extremely happy with his decision."

Came out if retirement of old ass De La Hoya
Came out of retirement for JWW Hatton
Came out of retirement for Lightweight Marquez
Came out of retirement for 0-0 Connor McGregor
Saw prime undefeated Miguel Cotto next up and stayed retired for 2 1/2 years

But Bob Arum made Floyd say Cotto lives too far, isn't a PPV star and won't let the sport of boxing retire him. Bob Arum made Floyd say it

      • OUt of all the fight Mayweather detractors bring up this is the only one that genuinely leaves a sour taste in my mouth. Cotto in 2008 would have been a sublime win on Floyd's resume. He had one foot out the door by that time though.

Four retirements In a 21 year career, lol. Then he had the nerve to say the following In the Baldomir post fight press conference

After Mayweather regained his composure a couple of minutes later and wiped his face with a white towel, he found the words that took everyone by surprise. "I love the sport," Mayweather said in a soft voice as he continued to wipe away tears. "One more fight and I'm through. I don't need boxing. I'm not in it for the money. It's about legacy.

            • Why are we having a conversation about a fight that didn't happen 10 years ago? I literally just realized this is important because?

Because I remember how it happened. I remembered Floyd originally retired after baldomir and was crying at the press conference but I wanted to make sure so I looked it up

Thanks man. Its easy to explain facts and remember how things happened when you actually lived through it and followed the sport

Robbie Barrett and the rest of the lames defending this didn't start watching boxing until 2012
