Comments Thread For: Duva: Barrera is One of Several Options For Kovalev's Return

Light heavyweight contender Sullivan Barrera is one of several opponents under consideration for former WBA, WBO, IBF world champion Sergey Kovalev, according to the promoter of both boxers, Kathy Duva of Main Events. Last month at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Kovalev was stopped in the eight round of his rematch with world champion Andre Ward. It was Kovalev second defeat in a row. His second fight of the year will take place between October and December.

Why would UNDEFEATED Kovalev waste his time on a bum like Barrera? Kovalev vs Joseph Parker for WBA Heavyweight title. Now.

Basically Kovalev won't fight Barerra. We already know he won't come near Stevenson so wonder who he will be fighting. Some feather fisted non entity or an old man who should have retired in 2006.

I like to see him fight someone like Usyk at cruiserweight.

A credible opponent for Kovalev coming off back to back losses. Could be a fun fight while it lasts as well.

Kovalev still has plenty of opponents at Light Heavy...

Ward needs to move down to 168 for that GGG fight after GGG dominates Ginger Schnapps...

Mickey Ward retired my friend. He was never the same after Gatti and definitely too small for Heavyweight. He would have to pay off refs and judges to compete higher than 160 and the only promoter with the juice to do that for him is Roc Nation, who unfortunately only does that for black fighters.
