  • Comments Thread For: Barrera Had No Idea Smith Bout Was 10-Rounds Until Ref Said It

There was a lot of confusion last weekend, when light heavyweight contender Sullivan Barrera fought Joe Smith Jr. in an HBO televised opener from The Forum in Los Angeles, California. Barrera went down in the first round, but got up and then dominated the rest of the way for a dominant ten round unanimous decision win.

Why does Joe Smith jump on the turnbuckle and flex to the crowd when he drops someone? He did it vs. Fonfara and he did it again vs. Barrera.

The way Barrera fell, he probably thought it was over.

It was a surprisingly ugly fall given that the shot didn't even look to be anywhere near Smith's best shot

IDK man when he did it vs. Fonfara he ended up getting up. You would think that taught him to stop doing that.

It reminds me of Trinidad vs. Vargas but Trinidad was great enough to continue dropping Vargas.

Its a good thing for smith it was only 10 rounds. Getting hit on a broken jaw another 2 more rounds would be ***ed.

The 'jaw breaker ' Barrera Vs Beterbiev make it happen.

Kind of a sad state of affairs that he (and HBO as well) wasn't aware that it went from 12 to 10 rounds. Things like that are what make our sport look bush league.

I really like Barrera, seems like a decent dude and his style is pleasing to my eye. Ward's victory over him definitely looks better now in my opinion. I don't think any LHW has an easy time with him.

seems like that was a last minute decision to save smith.
