Comments Thread For: Ronnie Shields: Mayweather-McGregor Will Be Rough Early On

Veteran trainer Ronnie Shields, who works with a variety of fighters like top fighters Jermall Charlo and Erislandy Lara, does not expect a wipeout when Floyd Mayweather Jr. faces UFC superstar Conor McGregor. On August 26th, the 40 year old Mayweather will break a two year retirement to fight McGregor, who is taking part in his first ever boxing match. The Showtime Pay-Per-View contest takes place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

I can see this playing out the first 2-3 rounds. Connor is just going to come out swinging for the fences in such an unorthodox way that we just see Floyd sit back and observe as he points. About midway through the 4th Floyd will start lighting him up over and over. By the 6th Mcgregor will be like a mean dog backed up and whimpering in a corner.

"The thing about it is, nobody has seen Conor McGregor in a boxing ring, we don’t know. We all know he’s a puncher, a southpaw, an awkward and big southpaw, so I don’t think it’s going to be as easy as people think it’s going to be.

"Floyd is not a knockout puncher, he’s never been a knockout puncher, but what he has that most fighters don’t have is that Floyd knows how to break you down and he takes his time doing it. This is not going to be a two or three round fight, I don’t see it that way. I see Floyd jabbing him in the body trying to soften his body up a little bit, that’s what I see."

"I think McGregor is going to pose a problem because one thing he has is power. The good thing is that Floyd is a defensive fighter because that’s what it’s going to take for him to be able to stand and be able to counter everything that McGregor is going to do. I think it’s going to be a rough and tough fight early but I think Floyd will stop him late.
        "

that is exactly what I think

one of the best break-downs so far

it is a fight..... Conor will not roll over, and Floyd will not rush anything.....

this fight will likely be described as " boring "

it will be a boxing match..... ugly/untidy at times, which is where Conor will have some success in spots..... but he will be systematically broken down over the course of the fight

McGregor's conditioning will determine how the fight ends

I think he will blow his load in a 12-round boxing match, can't see it any other way..... especially fighting Mayweather

Conor will be missing a LOT, and will be receiving the best jab to the stomach in boxing, all night long..... he will be very tired, and very frustrated.....

unless Mayweather demanded a 12-round fight, Team McGregor are fools for agreeing..... it should be 10 rounds

McGregor's team will likely stop it in round 9/10/11

mcgregor will be aggressive in the early rounds the crowd will go crazy as he has floyd against the ropes swinging for the fences then it will settle down round 4 onwards floyd will start to dominate picking his shots and using the ring crowd start booing floyd is far ahead and starts showboating to the crowd in the 12th then wins a UD MMA fans flood youtube boasting floyd couldnt stop mcgregor and ran all night then they will upload the fight in slow motion claiming mcgregor won at -1.5 speed

          sound familiar?

... Have you ever seen Conor McGregor fight? Not to diss you, but your breakdown has about as much to do with reality as the folks who believe that Floyd is going to punch out a 170lb man in 2 rounds.

They're playing a chess game in which Floyd is the Grandmaster and McGregor's the Novice. McGregor "might" take Floyd's queen, but in the end "checkmate" Conor.

This would be like Mayweather v Hatton...then after the 6th round its downhill from there for conor.

We've seen McGregor fight, he is a counter puncher. Where are people getting this idea he's going to fight like Marcos Maidana
