So What? The fight is still a joke of a mismatch. Conor has no chance to win or even land more than a few wild punches. If millions of suckers want to pay $100 to watch a one sided beat down of a cage fighter by a great old boxer that's their choice. I'll watch it for free within a day or two after the fight is over. I won't pay to watch it live. I don't think anybody with much real knowledge of boxing gives Conor a chance to win. It probably will break all sales records because of the huge number of crazy fans with very little knowledge. Many fans believe pro wrestling is absolutely real and not staged. These are the type who think Conor will win and will pay$100 to watch it happen live.
Mayweather/McGregor is gonna CRUSH Mayweather/Pacman numbers...

You do realize that you're not watching it the next day "for free", right? So What? The fight is still a joke of a mismatch. Conor has no chance to win or even land more than a few wild punches. You're paying with your attention. Advertisers know that the battle has just begun at the final bell. If this is an entertaining match, for any reason, silly or not, the companies on those ring posts, trunks (hublot anyone?), etc...will be creaming their pants at the possibility of decades' worth of brand exposure (memes, gifs, Youtube, social media, etc...). Not to mention the advertisers that precede & interrupt your next-day viewing experience. Oh, and notice that suggested video queue that sucks you down the rabbit hole sometimes.
It's a virtual 69. Cool if you don't wanna throw a fight party with your boys and enjoy life as a casual for an evening--instead of sucking the entertainment out of sports entertainment. Enjoy watching Floyd beat a guy back to MMA, and you only had to endure a few months of official promotion. If anything more happens, you wouldn't be a little intrigued? I would.
Just don't think you're watching any of it for free.
If you think this stuff isn't worth something, you're crazy.
Conor & Floyd have more than sold the fight so far.
And they've got people like you who think you're getting around the suckers. You're sucking at the corporate media's teet too, amigo. You just don't know it.
And you also don't understand what is meant by "casuals". Casuals don't care who wins. Seriously. How do you not understand this? They may place a bet, or spend a half hour of their lives rooting for "the Irish guy", but they're not emotionally invested in the narrative.
That is why this event is going to be massive. It's an event for casuals. Everyone is an expert in this one.
It's why Jordan & Kobe playing one-on-one with the right promotion would generate more interest than any NBA finals.

I honestly don't know too much about it. But when I'm looking at most popular basketball teams, we've got Celtics up there. The notre dame college football team etc. Even Gerry Cooney when he was fighting. It would be a mistake to think that people in America w/ Irish blood have anywhere near the racial identity, loyalty, or interest in combat sports as Mexican Americans. It's not even close to being anything like that out here.
I do think this one sells well because it's two polarizing stars in their respective sports. I think the racial and national angles are a very small factor in this, as far as US buyers go.
Seems like when they get something irish they go behind it a lot.
But honestly I don't know that much about the mexican sports in the U.S besides the boxing.Comment

Dude you sound like McGregor fights in the UFC in 1998.

False. The real money starts after the event is over. Exponentially more people will watch the replays, chopped up vids, memes, gifs, etc...than watched the live event.
Think about all of the beer companies who'd love to get in on that. The real money is in subsequent viewings. Can you imagine, in aggregate, how many sets of eyeballs will be staring at those logos for decades to come? (esp if the fight is entertaining (and yes, a one-sided old-school, backyard, beat-down of Conor with Floyd clowning RJJ style will be just as intriguing as a few conor bombs landing flush)).
I agree that you give the respective fighters less money, though with any great agent, that residual effect has to be a part of the fighters' pay, maybe not.
But the point is, if Canelo/GGG only sells 500,000, but ends up being a blood bath that ends in a violent KO with a ring brawl after...
Do you know how much more the "next-day viewers" will be worth?
Use your brain. Save your $100, but use your brain. When you watch this stuff the next day, you're a part of the hive.
It's an advertisers wet dream, and it's worth a lot more than you thinkLast edited by nveleven; 07-15-2017, 04:29 PM.Comment
