Comments Thread For: Trainer: McGregor's Boxing Skills Improving, Sparring Going Well

Conor McGregor's UFC coach John Kavanagh has warned Floyd Mayweather the Irishman's boxing skills are improving all the time. The mixed martial arts star is set to face undefeated former five-weight world champion Mayweather in Las Vegas on August 26 under normal boxing rules. McGregor, 28, has never boxed as an amateur or professional and has roundly been written off by experts who say he has no chance against Mayweather, b ut Kavanagh feels his man is already shaping up well.

If you're fighting one of the best ever your skills need to be doing more than "improving"

His boxing skills wont matter IMO. He's gonna rush at Floyd throwing wild punches once that bell rings and everything he learned will go out the window.

Probably up to the level of a local Golden Gloves 5th place in his weight division level. I would bet there are a ton of 154 lb teenage golden glove boxers who would light McGregor up right now.

Dude has 6 weeks left to get ready.

Of course they are going to improve but enough in 40 something days for Floyd? Eh...

That's a good thing. As Andre Ward suggested, stay awkward Conor. His best chance is fighting very "strange" and different from conventional boxers. That's his best shot at landing something meaningful.

I expect first few rounds to be like Maidana 1 tbh with McG just running at him and throwing at all times. Floyd defends and focuses in body punching to gas Conor and possibly press the stoppage later on
