    Calzaghe V Nigel Benn

@ 168 ofcourse, what happens in this fantasy match up ?

lookin through his career dvds you see how benn evolves. he improved ALOT since the days he was a reckless streetfighter, he fought like a berk against antony logan & mike watson but showed alot of tools to outbox guys like 6ft4 lenzie morgan (robbed against former world champ tiozzo in previous fight), piper, wharton & the such.

ive followed calz's career & i know that he is really on the mark when his hands are in good condition, the experienced giminez had never been stopped & sheika fight for example. he has come through tough fights against the likes of eubank, brewer & mitchell so he is well equipped to go with benn- but would benn **** or box ?

if they both slug it out, ithas the makins of an extremely excitin fight- but who comes out on top ?

calzaghe. calzaghe throws those in-tight hooks that would eat up a wide swinging fighter like benn.

Spot on with that observation. Thats what Benn was, a wide swinging fighter. Calzaghe would finish him.

If it was the wild version of Benn with NO defence, it could go either way! It would be a right ole tear-up while it lasted, but I'd go for big Joe because of his in-tight hooks and sharp-handedness. Benn only had short, compact punches when he used pre-thought, but when he was in 'tear-up' mode (as he would be with Calzaghe) he was wild and unpredictable. But remember, Benn would be weighing 160ish and Calzaghe more like 175 - so Calzaghe would have a huge weight advantage.

If it was the thoughtful version of Benn, then I definately have to go with Benn over Calzaghe. His lateral movement would of caused anybody problems, I see him causing Calzaghe to paw his punches and then striking with the counter. I don't think it would take too long for Benn to get Calzaghe out of there, if it was the thoughtful Benn.

sorry but i disagree. i think if we saw a more patient benn, we would see calzaghe give him a healthy respect for his power but he would still stop him late. benn was a destroyer, one of the most exciting fighters of my time BUT he was extremely flawed.

Benn was a wide swinging fighter against Logan, Watson and Barkley, but other than those fights he very rarley used wide, swinging punches - he either used short, compact punches or springing punches (his spring was second to none). It's a nice myth, though.

I think G man would give Calzaghe a tough fight, and benn already beat him.

I guess you just haven't seen much of Benn, lol! He was damn flawless in a lot of his fights, later in his career. FLAWLESS.

It's a nice myth that he remained a wild street brawler for every one of his fights.

that is a good point. he did have those unpredictable springing punches. i found him to be a little too left-hook happy though, and calzaghe would figure that out.
