What IF McGregor wins?

I think boxing fans take this sh^t too seriously. Mickey Rourke, the actor, had a boxing career. Did any of you have to explain why a actor went undefeated in boxing to anyone?
If somehow Floyd catches a L to Conor then Floyd catches a L to Conor & you don't need talking points to talk to non-boxing fans about it, whatever Conor beat him with thats how Conor beat him. You'll be able to see with your eyes what happened.Comment

All the nonsense OP posted has nothing to do with anything. Floyd is 40 and him losing now - no matter how close or devastating - is a shot fighter. He hasn't fought in almost 2 years and although he looked solid in September of 2015...he's still 40 years old.
I would rate the win highly ONLY because it's a non-boxer in McGregor, but I don't rank 40 year old Floyd in any Top 10 anythingComment

Tbh as a pure sports fan I love underdogs and can't help but root for mcgregor although he is insufferable. Problem is the boxer in me wants my sport represented lolProps for taking up the Boxing vs. MMA side of this. In all honesty, I think there is a significant group of boxing fans here that want Mayweather to lose.
He has nothing to win by this but money, and everything to lose. McGregor has everything to win and nothing to lose. If Mayweather loses, it will easily trump Tyson/Douglas for the biggest upset in all of sports history, and boxing as we know it will never be the same. If Floyd lets us down, it will be a catastrophe, and we may have to attend boxing matches with paper bags over our heads.

If he wins we simply ask for Mcgregor vs GGG and go best 2/3Now, I don't believe it will happen. Maybe there is a 0.1% but in a fight between two athletes, both with fists, anything could happen and we've seen it happen. So, if that 0.1% chance comes off...then what? As boxing fans, do we make excuses?
Floyd was old? 2 years retired? Mcgregor was too big?
Or do we take the loss on the chin and give McG his props? Because let me tell you, I would give him 100% credit. Mayweather isn't a normal 40 year old and he isnt a 40 year old fighter. In 21 years he has had 49 fights, only a handful of them have been that physical and not a single one of them has been a war. His body is fresh, it's not broken up like so many fighters through history.
Imo, McG would not be beating an old fighter and certainly not an old man. I believe he beats a slightly passed prime Mayweather and that would be HUGE. It probably makes McG one of the most marketable athletes on the planet. He could overtake AJs earning potential.
And...we'd all have egg on our face.

That's true. In general, it would be Floyd's reputation that takes a huge hit.
Boxing is boxing, it'll remain intact with good fights. It's not like people are suddenly not going to want to watch good fights because Floyd lost to a UFC fighter. All that will happen is hardcore UFC guys will keep talking about how it's the superior sport.
To 99% of other people who watch the event, it'll be old news within a week and they will find something else to talk about and go back to being not interested in boxing.Comment

I don't think people understand. Asking if McGregor has a shot is like asking of somebody who goes ice skating with his family every Christmas could play defenseman against Wayne Gretzky in a one on one and expect to win. McGregor has reasonably fast hands but he doesn't have a fast twitch muscle in his lower body. He's going to make a 40 year old guy look half his age.
McGregor will be lucky to land one good punch.
For those who need a refresher who how important controlling distance is watch Mayweather vs. Marquez again if you can stomach it. Floyd could do anything he wanted in there. JMM looked like he was bolted to the ground.
This is going to be ten times worse than that.Comment
