I just met Sechew Powell yesterday and we sat and talked for awhile. I watched him figting in the gym and this guy has skills. But the thing about him that was the greatest was his personality. Man does he have charisma and charm. One great guy to say the least. I wish him all the best in his journey through this tough game.

I agree. Bert was fun to watch. Remember his line after the Holyfield fight, “No more Friday Night Fights for me!” He was a fun character to watch.

You know your fighter has problems when he loses when hes on. I really enjoyed his fights with Mercer and Moorer, those fights were wars. The Holyfield fight was stopped prematurely, there was like 2 secs left in the round and he was still standing weathering the storm.

I remember when he said that I thought, "OH Bert!...wanna bet?" But I was happy for him. His old trainer, Joe Frazier called him up after that fight and told him he was proud of him and the fight he put on. I'm not sure; but I think Joe quit him because of the coke problem, so it was cool for him to call him up and give him props for giving his best.

The thing is I remember seeing Coop fight early in his career at Cruiserweight when he was an undefeated hot prospect. I wish I could remember the opponent; but the guy had Coop up against the ropes, diggin him to the midsection and Bert looked over his shoulder at the crowd, gave a little nod and wink and then exploded all over the guy and knocked him out a few seconds later. I was sure I was looking at the next great champ at the time. Goes to show you that it doesn't matter how much talent you've got if you don't commit yourself.

Yeah; but who wins all the time anyway? Nobody. Not in life, not in boxing, not in anything. It's all about the battle. Bert wasn't perfect; but he was the epitome of self-responsibility. What I mean by that is this; Bert probably could have been great if not for his personal weaknesses. How many of us in life think we could do better than we do; but don't because of our own weaknesses? It doesn't have to be drugs. It could be self-confidence problems, lifestyle problems, etc. Any number of things in life can prevent us from reaching our personal best if we let them....and sometimes it doesn't matter how dedicated you are to something, it just wasn't meant to be.

I liked Bert Cooper because he was real; good, bad, and all.
