5 million? No way.
Except now, you've got the live event money (gate, sponsors, closed circuit, merch, etc; once everything is counted you're likely talking about a $50m net), international TV (UK/Ireland likely brings the most money, but the fight will be featured in basically every TV market possible; $20m off of international TV isn't unheard of), and other revenue streams to consider besides PPV.
With all of the non-PPV money, you're likely at needing to draw 1m-1.2m PPV homes to cover the guarantees to both camps (getting everyone ridiculously paid) before starting to count the upside money.
Will the fight do 5m PPV homes; unless McGregor is the most epic **** talker in combat sports, or footage/information gets out that makes folks think that McGregor could legitimately win, I doubt it.
Thing is, it doesn't have to to 5m PPVs; with all of the money coming in on the fight, even at 3m homes, Mayweather and UFC/McGregor would still be splitting $250m-$300m between them. Both sides get their guarantee, and then still split another $100m+ on the back-end.

I'm just trying to come up with the permiters of whats an accepted opinion on the buys.
Yea I'll cover your 6quint or 6whatever you got.
Look the success of this fight is going to depend on how many mma fans buy it and how many casual boxing fans buy it.
Look dude the May-PAC fight was so successful at getting 4 million buys because it was super anticipated and the WHOLE sports world was interested.
This fight will generate buys for sure, im not saying it won't. I just know it won't do the 5 mill you predict. I say about 2 to 2 1/2 million will be more like the number.
The WHOLE sports world is not on fire for this fight like it was for may-PAC. That's why it won't do these crazy numbers you Floyd fanboys predict.

No idea where you're from, but the general PPV fights in my area are regular hosted by two bars and a couple strip clubs on mute (Fathom Events carried the fights in one theater here, and Mayweather-Pacquiao was such a big event that a handful of extra venues chose to stage as closed circuit sites).
If the option is truly to either see the fight, or head to a bar and not see the fight, even folks like you will quietly try and find a place to see the fight (or end up at the non-viewing bar, following the rbr on this site or some other site, and not really even enjoying your time with your friends until the fight card is over).
$20 plus the cost of drinks, food, and likely a club/bar after the fights are over, with friends, is a great way to spend a night out (depending on how things end up going, and what the after-hours ends up looking like, you're looking at a $150-$250 night).
If the bar wasn't airing the fight, my circle would be at someone's house, everyone will kick in on the PPV, food and drinks, and we'd head out to whatever club after the fights were over (folks show up ready for the night out, fights are basically done by 10:30pm, and we'd be in the club before midnight).

This fights success or failure has absolutely nothing to do with boxing fans or MMA fans. Idk why some of you guys are so dense about this stuff.
The broader the reach of a fight the more buys it will have. Most fights ONLY reach hardcore boxing fans. Some fights reach to casual boxing fans. Some reach further to sports fans. And some fights reach all the way out to people who never watch boxing except when its some huge name in an event fight. Thats this fight.
Obviously each of those pools of people get bigger. And each of those pools of people have a certain % of buy rate. Boxing fans, hardcore & casual, will probably be 15%-20% of the people who watch this fight. The other 80% (4M+) will be sports fans or people who never watch boxing. You guys who don't think this fight doesn't do insane numbers don't grasp the interest beyond boxing & MMA that this fight has.Originally posted by Eff Pandas View PostOkay so if Jake or that dying FB guy or Fat Dan or anyone who has announced PPV numbers in the past says its 5M its 5M then?

This fight has reach beyond boxing & MMA.
And this fight will reach sports fans + non-sports fans too. The analogy I make is the super bowl. I never watch any sports besides combat sports, but I'll usually end up watching the Super Bowl. This fight is the Super Bowl. Manny vs Floyd & Floyd vs Oscar & Tyson vs Holyfield were Super Bowls. This fight is on a whole other level to those fights.
I'm hearing about this fight f#cking everywhere bro. This fight was being talked about everywhere before it was even a fight ffs. Its f#cking insanity. Idk how you don't see this is off the sports richter scale.
This fight is big for some people. But it's absolutely not as big as May-PAC. The whole sports world is not as intersted in this fight as it was May-PAC. It's just not. You Floyd fanboys can say it is but it just is not.
You are on with the bet if you want.

I'm not watching that bum ass Lomo fight next month and you won't see me on any articles crying how I'm not watching that bum ass fight. And how many punches did Canelo land on Mayweather? How many punches did Marquez land on Mayweather?
So what else is new. Marquez and Canelo BOTH got shut the fuuck out by Floyd so when Conor does welcome to the club.

This fight is f#cking everywhere. Its f#cking insanity, but its true. People who know f#ck all about boxing or MMA are talking about this fight.
And yea I know most everyone thinks of this as a joke fight or a bs fight that shouldn't be taken seriously & honestly I don't really disagree with that on a pure boxing level, but don't forget that in 1995 another joke fight, Tyson vs McNeely broke all PPV records too. This is about the show, the event, not the fight itself.
