I think he would make it. There are enough sensitive people in industry or soon to be industry that were inspired by Golovkin, and there will be excuses as to why his career went the way it did.

for example in the future round-table Cotto might say to GGG "hey remember that step aside fee and the WBC strap?!"

Or the host says to GGG, "hey remember the times when u said 154-168 was easy yet you never did anything about it!"

Or the host says, "remember when you had the opportunity to be undisputed in Astana while for fours you were promoting it on tarps and you somewhat did a disservice ditching the revenues for that Expo just so that u could fight Alvarez!?"

Or Virgil Hunter joins in on the convo laughing, "or remember that time you stood in that nook regarding Ward, knowing fully well he couldn't make 164, but your handlers trolled for Froch and Chavez Jr.!? Remember that Gennady!?"

Gennady says, "hey guys this is boxing this is business, show me the contract!"

I'm not sure what the actual parameters of being "first ballot" entail, but he is probably already HOF bound. He has some work to do though before he's done though.

first ballot just means you get in the first time you're eligible, which is five years from the time you retire. i really hope gennady golovkin isn't a hall of famer at this point in the eyes of the BWAA.

            Absolutely.

There are 3 fighters who are inducted into the hall of fame each year

Theres not gonna be enough candidates in 5 years and golovkin will be a first ballot hall of famer if he beats canelo then retires

I want to hear your case. I don't believe you have one. I think you're just still salty from the disagreement the other day.

We could see Mayweather, Pacquiao and Klitschko have their final fights this year, maybe JMM too. Hell even Cotto and Roy Jones might hang them up. Would Golovkin get in ahead of any of those guys?

Ah...but the hypothetical question is if he loses to Canelo and then retires, not if he beats him.

If he beats Canelo I agree with you........ which is why this is a very important fight for GGG and Canelo.

I personally think that if GGG loses and then retires it will reflect very badly on his legacy and he'll be seen as more Jeff Lacy than HOFamey.
