No, he's giving Loma and easy look good fight to take advantage of the ESPN prime time spot. Loma will win easy and look great and will surely enlarge his fan base.

Problem is it will be against a guy coming off a loss that isn't any better than the guy he just beat. Loma, the fans and the sport benefit more by him fighting progressively better opposition.

Why would he have to build it? Loma is coming off a red hot performance against Walters, a Valdez fight doesn't need a 'common opponent' story line

It's a possibility. They already fought in 2009.

Here is an article from a year ago:

MGM Grand, Las Vegas - Last night, Mexican Olympian Oscar Valdez (20-0, 18KOs) made a big statement when he blew right through previously undefeated and untested Matias Rueda (26-1, 23KOs) in two rounds.

No I think you're right it's possible its leading to a Valdez fight, I just think they're taking a roundabout way to that fight

I don't think so. I think they wanted Salido but that fell apart at the last minute and they needed a quick replacement. And it's typical of Top Rank to go to some tired, reused opponent. I like that we're getting fights on ESPN but Top Rank is almost as bad as PBC at matchmaking lately. And by lately I mean for the past few years at least.
