yeah i dont think theres a huge difference between the brook fight and this one. I would say they are similar level fighters, and really is canelo that much bigger than brook? Looks a fairly big size difference in the head to heads. DOnt understand how ones a mismatch yet the other one isnt? Both fighters have lost to welterweights too (canelo every round almost to mayweahter, brook stopped in a competitive fight)
Who knows what would happen? Would GGG be potentially threatened behind the scenes to give away his belts? Is he going to be weakened from specific drug testing? These are things that can and do happen, so we can't ignore them.
Having stated this, Canelo Alvarez hasn't proven AT ALL that he is NECESSARILY better than Kell Brook. I'd like to see some evidence of that. Canelo Alvarez is most likely to be bigger than GGG (even Kell Brook weighed more than GGG on fight night whilst looking cut), but just like Kell Brook, Canelo Alvarez simply doesn't have the experience of taking punches from a REAL middleweight like GGG, David Lemieux, Daniel Jacobs and etc. Taking punches and surviving against much smaller opponents like Kirkland, Lara, Cotto, Mayweather and etc. doesn't prepare someone for fighting a REAL middleweight power puncher like GGG.
Canelo Alvarez will LIKELY suffer a similar fate as Kell Brook did against GGG. In my opinion, if Canelo Alvarez and Kell Brook fought at 160 pounds, Kell Brook would probably do a Floyd Mayweather Jr on Canelo Alvarez and box his head off, only to be most likely robbed by the judges if the fight happens in Las Vegas.Comment

The 'reality' is, Canelo Alvarez has shown nothing so far to suggest that he is 'better', more skilled or any more of a challenge than Kell Brook was to GGG. The only slight advantage is that Canelo Alvarez is slightly heavier than Kell Brook. Otherwise, there isn't anything Canelo Alvarez could do which Kell Brook couldn't do as well or better against GGG.
Canelo Alvarez has faster hands than GGG? Kell Brook's hands were even faster. Canelo Alvarez has elusiveness? Kell Brook was even slicker with much better footwork combined with upper body movement. Canelo Alvarez is an accurate puncher with good combinations? So was Kell Brook which is the reason why he managed to land many good shots on GGG early on.
Canelo Alvarez might be slightly more powerful than Kell Brook but not by much for it to make a significant difference. Canelo Alvarez's power punching record doesn't even come close to the likes of Daniel Jacob's, David Lemieux's or Curtis Steven's power (all whom GGG survived against with very little damage).Comment

I don't think it will be as one-sided now. Golovkin really has slowed down a lot and if any size difference ever existence, it's definitely gone. It's 50/50 now IMO.
I like watching the homies on NSB root for Canelo even though they hate his guts with a passion because they hate Golovkin even more. That's the best part of this fight.Comment

Canelo represents a legitimate danger to Golovkin in this fight.Comment

I'm a huge fan of Golovkin, and I will be in for a shocker if Golovkin rolls through him.
Styles make fights. Canelo could pick apart Jacobs with his counters, and Golovkin would destroy Chavez because he has the skill for it. Canelo didn't 'struggle' with Chavez, he hurt him a bunch of times, toyed with him and embarassed him. Sure, he couldn't knock him out - but Canelo's knockouts come when the opponent is throwing something. Canelo is not a seek and destroy. He uses superior reflexes and timing to deliver an unexpected knockout blow.
Everyone thinks that Golovkin will sit and jab all night. You need to dig deeper. Watch the below vid from Wilson Kayden, made 2 years ago. The reason Golovkin's jab is so powerful and unstoppable is because his COUNTER jab is just as good. He counters his opponents jabs in the beginning of the fight, which teaches his opponents not to try it - which opens up the jab game for him.
Here's the problem, as you'll see in the vid - Canelo's own counter jab, and even other counter punches, are just as good as Golovkin's jab & counter jab. You can bet your ass Reynoso is working on countering that jab RIGHT NOW. They'll have a ton of little pitfalls and traps they'll prepare against that jab.
Canelo is excellent at fighting on the ropes, his reflexes are top notch, and his counters are dynamite. You may be severely underestimating him.
There's a reason Golovkins Jab is as one of if not the best in boxing right now, he uses it correctly against ALL opposition. Where was Canelo and his jab against Lara, Trout and Khan? Golovkin has pulled off the jab effectively on faster fighters with longer reaches than him. Canelo has not. Big difference.Last edited by T18Z; 06-23-2017, 05:18 PM.Comment
