Funny thing is in this GIF, you can clearly see when Ward's arm is low enough to create the misleading picture in the OP. Only issue for TS is that the punch continues upwards from there.

Not saying that this punch is definitely clean, but it's not the nutshot TS is intentionally skewing it to look like.

It's coming in from way low, in an upwards trajectory, hitting lower then the beltline, and brining Kovalev's whole protective cup upwards, hurting the nuts.

The first punch was below the belt. That's all there is to it. Do I think Ward was controlling the fight? Yes. But Kovalev should have been given 5 minutes to recover. Weeks blew the call. Simple as that.

Ward probably would have went on to win.
