I agree with you about the legions of MMA fans and casuals selling this fight but I would think the majority of people expected to buy Mayweather/McG probably weren't planning on buying Canelo/Golovkin anyways. That's not to say that Canelo/GGG will do as good as it probably should given the magnitude of the match up but that's boxing. You need to factor in the millions of MMA meatheads who think their man is going to knock Mayweather out though. Add those to the casuals plus the millions that the hype train picks up when it is at full steam and I can easily see it reaching May-Pac numbers. It will definitely affect Canelo vs Golovkin, who I think may need a strong undercard to recover some losses.
Even here in Canada, where pro boxing is virtually nonexistent outside of Quebec, TSN actually talks about Mayweather/McGregor whereas Canelo and Golovkin are nowhere to be found. There was also scant coverage of the Joshua/Klitschko fight. MMA is big in Canada and since McGregor seems to be everyone's hero, Mayweather/Mcgregor is all the rage. Do MMA fans realize McGregor isn't allowed to use any MMA moves?Comment
