Actually I hate to burst your bubble but there has never been a ring death in the history of MMA. I could be wrong here...but I'm almost 90% sure no one has died in the Octagon fighting MMA.

i looked it up i guess you are right no deaths in the US for sanctioned mma fights......."What is perhaps most disturbing about Mr. Mushnick’s column is his use of unidentified “chroniclers” of the sport to assert that there has been 8 deaths in “UFC-like competitions.” The fact is that there has never been a death in the UFC or in any regulated MMA promotion. Most other contact sports, including boxing, cannot make the same claim".

From what I heard there was 1 death in MMA since it started and that was at an unsactioned event with a guy who fought against doctors orders. It's not one punch that will kill you, its the accumulation of punch after punch after punch. Plus people keep saying knees and elbows are worse than punches. If you get hit with an elbow there is a good chance that you will get cut and not be able to continue, so that doesn't mean they are more dangerous. People die all the time in boxing, it's sad but true. There's more of a chance of getting a broken arm or something in MMA but less of a chance of dying. It may be too soon to tell, but I don't know of any MMAer who is punch drunk. But boxers, just look at a guy like Meldrick Taylor. Plus people say the gloves are smaller than in boxing, so what. Mayweathere wears big gloves, so I guess that means that he isn't as dangerous as other boxers. Where is there more of a chance of dying boxing, of a broken arm or dislocated sholder, MMA.

they shouldnt be fined? i think they should. the corruption in boxing is not coming from the commisions as much as its coming from promotors

More deaths in MMA, u might be knowledgeable in boxing but not in MMA. Since the inception of MMA from the start of the UFC in 1993, there was only one death occurred. An MMA event was held in Russia, a fighter from the US went to compete, but he had a medical history prior to fighting. Since MMA was only beginning back then, medical regulations were few. Since it was also held in Russia, the fighter did not have to tell the organization of any medical problem history or any mandatory requirements by any government sports agency. The fighter fought in that event and it caused his medical problem to aggreviate that resulted in his death.

Moy22487 posted that in boxing when the fighter hit the canvas its over, wrong again (unless the referee made a right decision in concern of the safety of the boxer, then that statement is half right). Not all boxing fights are like that. How many fighters had hit the canvas, beat the count, get punish some more, hit the canvas again, beat the count again, and get punish some more. When this happens, the boxer's head get a lot of punishment compare to MMA, if an MMA fighter is knockout or can't defend himself, its over.

Like i posted before, for those who lives in the US, buy the August 2006 edition of Ring magazine, theres an article of safety comparison of boxing and MMA. The author did not bash MMA and even praised MMA for its safety regulations.
