Time to omit Tony Weeks from these big fights. His best refereeing days are over. He stops fights too quickly and allows too many low blows to go unchecked. And I'm not biased towards Kovalev or Ward. Why didn't they have Kenny Bayliss as the ref, if he's still around, or Mercante Jr perhaps.

The low blows are Ward's fault, not retaliating is Kov's fault! Every veteran fighter knows, when the ref don't help, you help yourself! I don't know why Kov (and Loma) haven't been taught this, but Amercians (North, Central, South, and Caribbean) know this, just like they know how to fight inside! Maybe the Eastern European fighters are not taught this, because they train for Olympic style fights? I don't know what the problem is, but there is a difference from Olympic fighting and Professional boxing! There will be low blows, elbows, headbutts, etc., but you must know what to do in response!

You mean like Gainer vs Norwood? Good point. Truth is, Kovalev would be DQed for sure. But I still like it.

They would both be warned again, just like when they were both punching behind the head. Kovalev was fouling too, just not to the balls. However, the message would be sent! Kov would recover while Ward was recovering and then resume the fight. However, I think Kov was gassed again, and he was going to lose (legit this time) the fight. The legal body shots were taking their toll, and the legal lead lefts, and the legal right hooks, were connecting since round 4! The stoppage was awful, and just another black-eye for the sport! The whole event was trash, and definitely not worth $70!

Fuck me. Half of the "Scene's turned into novelists. Yeah, whatever your opinion on the legitimacy of the stoppage I don't think anyone can really reasonably blame Dre for the way the fight ended.

lol its not my fault the ref ignored the low blows i just fight. hes so entitled hes used to getting away with cheating. thats the whole problem. hes always been entitled and allowed to do anything he wanted in that ring with no consequences. that way he can deflect blame from his cheating tactics. "hey its up to the ref to deal with that" aww what a surprise he always lets you get away with it

Kovalev was done. People get caught up in the moment but they need to eventually except that the referee sees more than the audience. He wasn't fighting back, he was constantly looking at the referee for help and in the end he fell into a defensive position that would necessitate the referees intervention.

He didn't complain the moment Weeks stepped in because in that moment he didn't want the beating to continue.
