Is Kovalev that type of guy doe? He seems very Ronda Rousey-ish to me. And he probably even goes deeper then she does with her bs cuz I'm not sure he trusts anyone or feels that anyone is realllllllly on his team.
But yea I don't disagree he'd be better off if he acquired an actual team that was down for him. I just think he's on the back end of his career, he's been shown as a victim in his last two fights & this fight he seemed actively trying to get out of the fight.
Kovalev's story is written more or less now. Future opponents see the blueprint to beat Kovalev now. You can't change your stamina very well at this point of your career, you can't change your ability to bend when adversity comes this late in life.
I believe the rumors of his drinking problem that Virgil Hunter exposed is true! Its only really in these last two fights against Ward? Did we suddenly see stamina issues, before then he was a solid strong boxer puncher who ALWAYS seemed composed! Kathy Duva needs to advise him to part ways with all of his team accept John David Jackson! (And then ironically link up with Virgil Hunters camp! I think Kovalev can beat Adonis Stevenson!).
But yes he does seem very stubborn, and prone to self sabotage (These next coming moths will probably dictate which direction his boxing career goes! A real champion right now? Would be back in the gym training, not drinking alcohol or going on a holiday etc)..
All of the active fighters today can combine their excuses and still not exceed those of "The Best Excuses" ever. Here are some oldies but goodies. I haven't even included the excuses he used to avoid GGG and Martinez at 154, Mosley in his prime, or all of the other dangerous opponents he ducked since his prime. I also left out the excuses he offered for beating his girlfriends.
1. Manny isn't good enough
Floyd from time to time will say Manny isn't on my level. He's right In a way Manny is better than him. Look at their fights each opponent Floyd has faced Pacquiao has done better against. Mayweather-Hatton KO 10, Pacquiao-Hatton KO 2. Mayweather-Cotto Decision (Floyd had one of the hardest fights of his career) Pacquiao-Cotto KO 12. Mayweather-De La Hoya Decision (De La Hoya should have won that fight) Pacquiao-De La Hoya KO 9. Pacquiao is a dominant machine while Mayweather seems to usually slithers away with the decision.
2. PPV numbers
Manny is said to be the second highest paid PPV fighter behind Floyd yet Floyd said his PPV numbers are a joke. When does anybody remember Maidana, or Guerrero having any PPV bouts before fighting him? Fighting Manny would have set Mayweather for the rest of his life since the fight was worth $450 million.
3. I called Manny and he said 50-50
First of all Manny has been more than fair with Floyd their is no reason why Floyd needs to earn most of the money all of the time he is the highest payed athlete for Christ sakes. Manny even made a deal that said 45% to each of them and the extra 10% goes to the winner. Sounds fair right? About 230 million is this guys net worth and he can't give Manny 50-50? It shows how greedy, selfish, and how much of a diva he really is
4. Pacquiao has lost and I'm undefeated
First of all Manny probably got cheated at least twice but if you're a fighter sometimes you're going to lose. Lets admit the only reason why Floyd is undefeated is because the judges are always on his side and he never fights out of MGM Grand where he is favored. Yes Floyd won against Marquez once and Manny lost to Marquez once but Manny has also won against Marquez two other times. Anyone who thinks Marquez beat Pacquiao prior to the KO can get out of the conversation. Meanwhile, Floyd chose other opponents with more losses on their records.
5. I was dominating in the 90s. Where was Pacquiao in the 90s?
Well Pacquiao wasn't very popular in the 90s but neither was Floyd. It is proved that Floyd never really faced a good opponent until 2000. Plus was Guerrero, Maidana, Ortiz, Cotto, Alvarez, Mosley, Hatton, and others popular in the 90s? The only ones that might have been popular from that time is Cotto and Dela Hoya.
6. He fights my leftovers
Mayweather's passion is running not boxing. Pacquiao could make the same excuse saying Floyd fought Cotto three years later after Pacquiao did. Or Marquez. Also does anyone else find it funny Mayweather never brought up Cotto until he got defeated by Pacquiao?
7. Bob Arum
Its understandable that Mayweather and Bob Arum have a shaky past but a promoter shouldn't stop you from fighting someone else. Plus Bob Arum has tried to get the fight to happen Floyd just doesn't want it to happen.
8. I'm concerned for my safety and family
Floyd in a couple videos actually said he was concerned for his health. He made it sound like Pacquiao is a terminator or something that Floyd is going to get paralyzed. He sounds like a damn fool.
9. Pacquiao wont take the drug test
Pacquiao isn't letting Mayweather getting away with his diva ways and its getting to Mayweather. There is going to be any test to make the fight not happen. Not only after a while did Pacquiao say he would take the drug test he said he would agree to any of Floyd's terms to make the fight happen and Floyd still declined. Its unfair that it should be on Floyd's terms to make this fight happen.
10. He comes from 106
What does this even have to do with anything? Floyd came up from the same weight in the same amount of time.
11. I offered him $40M and he turned it down.
Because everyone knew the fight would be worth over $400M, so you essentially offered 10%.
12. I let the fight marinate!
The smoking gun of all time that proves Floyd was the one who ducked this fight until Manny slowed down. He admits he stalled this fight for years in order to "generate more interest and higher PPV". Yeah ok.
Hand injury
Weight drained
Ramadan
Lucky punch
Travelling too much in training camp And my personal favourite 'the Mystery man in hat' tampering with scorecards
nsb is full of butthurt f#ggots like yourself. makes this place nearly unbearable. you wouldn't make this thread if you weren't both of those things.
FFS dude THOSE WERE LOW BLOWS. i thought ward taking control and may have gotten a stoppage without them, but FFS the guy was stopped because of repeated low blows. how is that not a legitimate complaint?
and how is it not a legitimate complaint to say you thoguht you won teh fight when the MAJORITY OF MEDIA thought you won the fight?
"excuse maker of the decade"
more like, "is kovalev white, and am i salty about it?"
bro u absolutely need to grow up and kov was finished before that last low blow and did alot of illegal things (turning his back on opponent, acting like legal punches were low to get ward to stop throwing to the body, bending at the waist, rabbit punching, etc),,, why u guys are so infatuated with race is beyond me. Kovs body language led to that stoppage he was finished. if u want to see real low blows look at zab judah vs cotto these low blows yall are crying about are nowhere near that they were right on the beltline where weeks said was legal except maybe the last one it was a little low due to kovs positioning. Kov got his ass whooped no excuses.

yes floyd did contradict himself many times in that drama however the biggest focus should be that when the fight could have happened pac man and his team walked away from negotiations over testing (the same test he took for the fight he lost vs floyd) and that ruined the fight... roach even admitted it... get over it man

Pac refused to allow Floyd to slander his name and get away with that sorry excuse. The best excuses ever ruined that fight and keeping in the spirit of this thread there is no harm in pointing out who the excuse king is here.
