Kovalev was already gassing by the 5th round

His new Russian S&C coach couldn't stop it from happening.

And by the end he was showing the signs of a guy who didn't want it to the body anymore. Protecting his ribs at all costs.

I've seen this happen against Mexican body punchers many times, right down to the shots that were right on the beltline.

Ward painted an absolute master piece with his body shots. He made it his #1 priority, aside form avoiding the right hand of Kov's.

So body work and the opp showing signs of being broken down will justify a stoppage via nut checking? Cool.

ward was hitting low since round one, wtf are you talking about? they both look about the same to me when it comes to conditioning. this your way to justify a low blow stoppage? he was gonna get stopped anyways?

wart can't win without dirty tactics.

Ward was right when he said that Kovalev will always have an excuse,hmm... Sure seems like it right now. Kovalev wasn't even complaining at the stoppage was just sitting on the ropes. The fight was competitive till the 6th round where Kov looked really tired and was throwing arm punches. Sad news for all the Kov fans.

Now lil g string is next, Canelo will beat the tomato can killer very soon.

Those body shots looked borderline but legal to me. I'm open to seeing some replays and GIFs in the following days, though.

The stoppage was awful. That I won't defend, the ref robbed Ward of getting a conclusive win. I hate early stoppages...don't end the fight at the first sign of trouble. Give these guys a chance to reach a definitive conclusion.

It's shocking to me that such a world class fighter has such poor conditioning.
