Ward was breaking him no doubt about that. YES some shots went low ABSOLUTELY but was that the sole reason why Ward was having success ABSOLUTELY NOT! Ward loaded up on that right hand and it landed big and Kovalev was HURT and was looking to try and get away to Recover!

I don't think it's a naive way to look at it. The writing was on the wall even before the 8th. He was slowing down round by round, if he did go 12 he was going to end with an empty tank like last time.

I'm a fan of Kov but for whatever reason he just doesn't seem built for 12. He looked sluggish toward the end of the Chilemba fight, he looked terrible at the end of the Ward 1 and he was fading again here.

I don't think you read what you're quoting. His significant slow down came after he took punishment after the obvious, non called low blow. Just like the right hand he caught after another low blow in 8th.

Borderline. Kovalev was quiting bent over throwing nothing back he wanted a way out the fight. He already gassed out before the big head shot which is what really sealed his fate and had him all phuked up. I don't like the early stoppage it robbed ward of the highlight reel KO which was coming anyway.
