I was fully prepared to give Ward credit, even after the first borderline shot and right hand that came after. Kovalev got stopped bending over from low blows waiting for the ref to do something.

Neither the ref, nor Max or RJJ saw a low blow. I think one of the punches might have been, but as I said, it doesn't account for the terrible shape Kovalev was in in round 8. He was getting outclassed, outhustled, outboxed, outpowerpunched, hell, Ward looked the harder puncher. Kovalev couldn't adapt at all.
