  • Comments Thread For: How Mayweather-McGregor Delivered Ultimate Gut Punch To HBO

By Andreas Hale - With the recent announcement that the fight nobody thought had any business of happening will now take place on August 26th, all parties involved can celebrate. The spectacle that is Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor is guaranteed to make a ton of money as it follows in the footsteps of crossover fights such as Ali-Inoki and Toney-Couture. The difference is that social media will push this fight to inexplicable heights over the next ten weeks as we'll experience some of the finest trash talking combat sports has ever seen...

Oscar and Loeffler were playing checkers while Floyd and Haymon are playing grandmaster level chess.

Canelo/GGG fight is an amazing fight regardless of networks, it will do over 1 million buys, if this exhibition fight wasn't going on between Floyd/Mcgregor I could see it doing 2 million + The fight will still be a success.

On the other hand, HBO deserves what its getting. Reducing boxing budget which has lead to a disgusting decrease in quality regarding all their boxing events, videos, and creativity which made them the leading network for boxing in the 90 through the early 2000's. Showtime is poised to take over but still feels like an amateur network with the fight production (not quality, the fights they have are of high quality just the promotion and production compared to HBO's historically is still amateurish). HBO dragged its self into this mess and now with boxing on the rebound they are slowly being killed off.

Oscar needs to keep Floyd out of his a mouth, he was bragging that Canelo will take the Sept 16 date and Floyd cant stop him, if they aint waving a red flag then Oscar tells everyone to boycott Floyds fight before it was even made. Oscar made his bed and now must lay in it.

And I don't think it will effect GGG Canelo much at all, its 3 weeks earlier and people that will buy GGG Canelo have already decided to buy it.

Feel sorry for Ward Kov fight, White should have made the announcement after that fight not a few days before taking all its thunder, I was hoping Floyd or somebody at press conference would have gave a shout out for fans not to miss this weekends big fight but nope too much into themselves to care about Ward Kov.

It's just desserts for Oscar and Canelo by delaying the fight for so ****ing long. Should've been a huge money maker for all involved and they just took a massive hit.

I'd say it's already even lost some of its shine too as Golovkin has lost his aura of invincibility.
