The year ending ring rankings in 1996 was before their fight in 1997. Whitaker was behind Jones and Delahoya. The fight was in in Spring of 1997. There is no way Whitaker was 1 or 2 in Ring magazines list during that timeline. It didn't happen. Hell yeah I pointed out that he was clearly wrong and I backed it up with facts lol.

I already showed you the list from 96 and 97. What more do you want to see? You are clearly delusional and in denial

Whitaker was past prime, ranked behind Delahoya in Rings pound for pound ratings, looked terrible in his previous fight, and was the underdog as a champion. Facts.

Now Whitaker was prime when he fought Oscar? A fight many felt Oscar lost? That win is no better than Mayweather's wins over Pac and Oscar himself.

And I posted an article from the same damn place that did the rankings. You're the one that's in denial son. Whitaker was P4P no matter how you trying to spin it and DLH beat him.

        Past prime boxers Floyd faced.

        Pacquiao
        Cotto
        Oscar
        Mosley
        Gatti

Yet you criticize Oscar for fighting the Whitaker when he was considered one of the best in the world at the time he fought Oscar. Change the skin on Oscar and see how fast you jump on them nuts.

You realize all except Gatti that Floyd was also past his prime ?

This prime thing gets used a lot in debates and it rolls of the tongue easy but has a very wide set of bookends to where it exactly is with any given fighter.

You mean to tell me that Gatti was still prime after getting beat by Oscar, the wars with Ward and Robinson?

Oscar De La Hoya v Pernell Whitaker
                April 12, 1997
                Las Vegas, Nevada

Billed as “Pound for Pound” the second and third ranked boxers in The Ring would meet. Whittaker had gone on to become a four weight World Champion but returned to welterweight to take on the Golden Boy, Oscar De La Hoya. De La Hoya was a three weight world champion and had stopped Julio Cesar Chavez.

Whitaker uses sharp straights and spoiling tactics early. Oscar though is successful with his bigger shots despite Whitaker trying to take away his left hook. When Whitaker gets his jab away, a punch that lands 160 times in this fight, he tends to control the round. The fight is mainly Whitaker landing more punches efficiently and using great defense and pacing. De La Hoya was landing fewer power punches without hurting him. Whitaker managed to get the only knockdown in the ninth round. He out landed the bigger fighter and ringside observers all thought Whitaker had succeeded. However the judges saw it 116-110, 116-110 and 115-111 to Oscar De La Hoya, the new superstar of boxing.

Result: Oscar De La Hoya defeats Pernell Whitaker by Unanimous Decision

True but there is no denying that Whitaker was one of the best in the world also when he fought DLH. He was pretty much undefeated if it wasn't for the first Ramirez fight.
