Comments Thread For: Virgil Hunter: Ward Was Trained to Knock Out Kovalev This Time

LAS VEGAS Virgil Hunter is convinced Andre Ward can knock out Sergey Kovalev in their rematch Saturday night. Russia's Kovalev is considered the bigger puncher of the two and dropped Ward in the second round of their light heavyweight title fight November 19 at T-Mobile Arena. Ward (31-0, 15 KOs) didn't appear to hurt Kovalev (30-1-1, 26 KOs) during a 12-round fight Ward narrowly won by unanimous decision, but Hunter told a group of reporters Wednesday at Mandalay Bay that he has trained Ward to knock out Kovalev in their second fight.

Only way I see that happening is if Kov comes out swinging for the fences looking for an early KO and gasses. Leaving himself unable to protect his chin and then goes down to a flurry of punches.

....but gassed out, Kov still posses the power to hurt Ward if he's swinging for the KO.

Maybe they have been watching Samoa Joe's Coquina Clutch in the wrestling... he might be able to put him to sleep if he can lock it in during one of those rare clutches they might get in...

I predict an early accidental headclash will change the dynamics of this fight. S.O.G. will take advantage of it & Sergey will have that to deal with adversity from the jump. (Not to mention Ward's exceptional boxing skills & adaptability)

I predict Ward will grab and hold like he did in the first fight. I can't see him changing his style, he's always been a grabby kind of fighter and grabbing is his defense. He is NOT going to stay on the outside while fighting kovalev it's to risky and he certainly doesn't punch hard enough at this weight to think he has a good chance of knocking Kovalev out with one shot. If he does believe this he'll lose and lose big.

Nothing is accidental with this guy, he is a cheat who uses dirty tactics and wrestler who got a gift last fight.

This is a main reason people in the states want Kovalev to kick his culo.

Kovalev is a real champ and a real BOXER. coWard is a chump.

who was unable to hurt, kd or stop a 40+ year old D level midget in his previous fight ?

                    ok virgil.
