Brace yourselves lads, we are about to be hit with a wave of idiocy the likes of which we haven't seen since '08/09.

Also, lets not forget that a fat old Ray Mercer ktfo a UFC heavyweight champion in less than a minute in the octagon.

Not much of one lol. Maybe I'm forgetting something, but I don't recall him doing anything other than tapping out. I think it just took longer for Toney to get put into a submission then it took CM Punk to find his way into one.

If Mayweather wins, then the repercussions would obviously not be all that significant... it's expected that Mayweather wins. But I think the ramifications of a Conor McGregor, an MMA fighter, a Boxing amateur, upsetting the Boxing world would be earth-shattering for the sport. Mayweather being who he is, 49-0, TBE, etc... this might be the most significant bout ever.

And in either case, it might well be one of the biggest, if not the biggest money fight ever.

          - MMA fan since 1993, here (only a casual Boxing fan).
not enough ifs in the universe to cover this hypothetical outcome. tb'e' is a professional boxer and EASILY the best of his era. may has sparred with guys who would destroy con-or.

And it don't matter who's stepping into where. It could be a joke. When James Toney & CM Punk stepped into MMA it ended up being a joke. Same thing is easily possible here like it or not.
James Toney was old, didn't take it serious. But don't even mention CM Punk, he's just some dude, no actual combat-sport background. I don't like those comparisons either.

Conor McGregor is a real dude from one sport, stepping into Boxing. He's in his prime. He's serious. It's not a joke. He may end-up being out-classed, but that's Mayweather versus just about anyone, no? Were those fights jokes?

            P.S.

Brock Lesnar at least had legit collegiate wrestling background... ya see what he did in MMA?

            You heard of Fabricio Werdum?
Champ in Jiu Jitsu became Champ in MMA.

            You heard of Holly Holm?
Champ in Boxing became Champ in MMA.

You heard of Alistair Overeem? Yoel Romero? Damian Maia? Ronda Rousey? All elite-level athletes in other combat sports who became Champs or top level Contenders in MMA.

As an MMA fan, I don't see it as impossible for someone from one sport to step into another sport and do well.

Usain Bolt... is he TBE 100-yard sprinter?

What about a 40-year old Usian Bolt? You don't think there could be NFL punt-returners who'd beat Usian Bolt at his sport when he's past his prime?

              Just saying.

all you had to do was point to any mega boxing upset like buster-tyson, margarito-cotto1, fury-wlad, mayorga-vernon 2x, etc.

i wouldnt suggest betting against may here.

Its a reverse situation doe. This isn't Werdum going from BJJ into MMA. This would be more like a guy from MMA going to BJJ. Its a more refined level of talent in play.

I've only heard rumors of Conor even having junior level competitive boxing matches as a kid. As best as I can tell he's not had a legit fight as a amateur even. Thats a huge difference in skill.

Lebron is an amazing athlete, like Conor, but idk that you could take Lebron off the court & throw him into a whole new sport & have him perform at a high level vs an elite guy in that other sport.

That sorta sh^t takes time. Even the people you mention didn't come into MMA & kill it right out of the gate. They all spent years working on their craft & improved. Brock had a quick move up the ranks & even with how well he took to MMA he got beat early on.

So sure in a fight anything can happen so I'll never be a guy who'll say anyone can't win cuz I believe everyone has some chance to win even if its a tiny chance, but the odds are tremendously stacked against Conor even coming away with a respectable moral W by dropping Floyd or making it close or anything like that.

Its a bold move by him, but its not a move without the risk of being clowned in the ring & joked on after the fight he's so overmatched here if Floyd is anything like the Floyd we saw in 2015. And thats probably Conor's best opportunity to come away with a respectable moral W or a actual W is if Floyd isn't Floyd after 2 years out of the sport & being 40 years old in a young mans sport.
