For those who don't know what's happening in NYC:
May 5, 2016:
According to the 2010 census there were more than 319,000 Mexicans in New York City. The community has seen a population growth of 6.5 percent annually from 2000 to 2010.
By next decade, Mexicans and Mexican-Americans are expected to be the largest Latino group in New York City. This means larger than the dominant Puerto Rican and Dominican Republic communities.
Remarkable because there has not been much mention of the Mexican population in the general publicly. Cesar Zuniga, who was born in the U.S. to Mexican parents, the 43-year-old has a reason behind this, "Their undocumented status. Unfortunately, a lot of Mexicans who landed here in New York City in recent decades are not documented and I think that is a motivator to sort of keep people under the shadows."
However, and while the community works quietly behind the scenes, Zuniga -- who recently tried to become the first New York Assembly member with Mexican roots -- says that if every Mexican worker were to walk out of their job in New York City it would result in one thing, "Economic meltdown."
