Comments Thread For: Kovalev Explains Past Training Issues, Embraces Camp Changes

Oxnard, CA: Sergey "Krusher" Kovalev (30-1-1, 26 KOs) has an entirely new training philosophy as he prepares for his highly-anticipated rematch with Andre "S.O.G." Ward (31-0, 15 KOs) on June 17 live on HBO Pay Per View(r) at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. He has fired his strength and conditioning coach and has vowed not to make the same mistakes this time around. His new coach, Aleksandr Mikhailovich, has a new philosophy centered around his prior experience working with biathletes.

With as many excuses that he gave us since November, I don't think there are any left for after this fight. He said he was ok with the judges. If he loses, we should simply hear, Ward was the better man tonight. Nothing else.

He basically dominated wardy while gassed. Imagine what he will do in better shape.

I like Kovalev as a fighter but he is difficult to work with. Sounds like he increased his own training and conditioning coach was afraid to contradict him, which is probably exactly what happened.

I don't buy the over trained excuse, I thought it was the body shots that slowed Kov down the second half of their fight

The first fight wasn't fair You had Kovalev fighting against Ward, a blind referee and three blind or corrupt judges. Hopefully this next fight will be on the up and up
