It's a weird thing with Ward. I've enjoyed Mayweather's style for as long as I've been watching boxing, yet have never warmed up to Ward's... even though they're essentially the same. I can't explain that one. Maybe it's Mayweather's hype-building skills I enjoy too.

Also, what Ward said about blood-and-guts fighters being forgetten after they're done at the top level... I can't agree. Plenty of fight fans will remember the slugfests by the guy in my avatar, or even Brandon Rios, but in all honesty who is going to remember an exciting Ward fight?

There are lots of fans who appreciate Ward's accomplishments. Ward's trouble is he wants every fan on planet earth, every boxing writer and all of the media to appreciate him.

I think that it's probably because Floyd uses fewer illegal tactics than Ward does. Floyd did the elbow thing, Ward does the elbow thing along with the clinching grab, jab, and get inside quick and holding ploy, the deliberate spoiling.

I think Floyd was a more purely technical boxer who relied on speed and pure skill more. He didn't spoil nearly as much.

I disagree. You can like or dislike any style you want.

You can like sports, but don't have to appreciate every sport.

You can like college, but not all subjects.

You can like working with your hands, but not all types of hands on jobs.

Certain Boxing "fans" don't when they don't like a particular fighter, for ones they like they are all for their favorite fighter's style. These dudes are just into Boxing for the blood sport, they never did respect the "sweet science". Doesn't help that HBO, ESPN and the like promote the bloodsport aspects over everything else.

What? Ward fights nothing like Mayweather.
