what is there to like. it makes no sense. surely the whole reason of watching boxing is to be entertained, so why would you support fighters who dont provide this? Or is there another reason why people passionately defend fighters that are boring? For those who are massive fans of safety first, negative fighters, please tell us why that is....

why do people support boring fighters?

From what I can see it is usually racial bias. Or, they identify with said fighter's persona, country of origin, or values (or lack of values).

Why can't posters like this simply accept the fact their choice is not everyone's choice. If you like watching a guy KO opponents that are almost always 15-1 to 8-1 underdogs, cool. If others don't then just accept it.

I guess it depends on your definition of boring. A lot of people find math and science boring, while others find them fascinating.
But to answer OP's question it's the same reason we root for our hometown sports teams. Even if they are going up against a more talented, explosive, high-powered offense, you're still rooting for your home team to grind it out, take the opponent's strengths away, and get the win.

By your definition we should all love the late Kimbo Slice.
Some of us are fans of the Cuban School of boxing or the Philly Shell, or speed fighters.... Some of us are fans of vintage RJJ, vintage James Toney, SRR, Sweet Pea Whitaker, Mayweather, Hector Camacho, Rigo, Lara. Fighters like this made have made an art form of not getting hit. It takes infinitely more skill to avoid getting hit than to be a strong puncher.
The problem with boxing is that, the more skilled the 2 fighters in the ring are, the less full blown massive action you'll see. Truly elite boxers are adept at feinting, moving, blocking, things some consider boring but many (like me) enjoy watching.

Sometimes its fun seeing a technical fight or a chess match in the ring, isnt that what boxing is? Its not rock em sock em robots. Once in a while you see a Thurman-Porter where both guys are swinging for 12 rounds but its not sustainable and not a good way to have a long career.
What defines a boring fighter? Floyd comes to mind since everybody calls him boring but he isnt boring to me. If anything, his opponents are boring because nobody tries anything new on him and ive seen him swing it out plenty of times. Andre Ward? Another in and out guy that isnt boring. Who exactly is boring?
