There were no headbutts because Kovalev was doing what was necessary to prevent headbutts. Therefore Ward had to revert to wrestling. Ergo diving in and grabbing his legs and below the waist in general.
Go tell it to the preacher man. You've got a problem with the truth. And we're not in court...

No no, you're right. Throughout their careers, Kovalev has proven to be a clinching, fouling cheater who relied on holding and made his fights boring, whereas Ward has proven himself to be an offensive stand up fighter with a strong punch, and a willingness to stand face to face and trade with his opponents, which made him exciting to watch every time. You keep on doing you, slick.

Kovalev is a top fighter with elite boxing ability and knockout power. Andre Ward is also a top fighter with elite boxing ability, amazing stamina, world class intelligence and unbreakable will power. I'm fine with leaving it at that. I don't need to try to discredit or insult anyone to make my point.

Ward couldn't even "smash" journeymen, how is he going to smash Kovalev?

I will say that he is likely to win via robbery again.
