Comments Thread For: Marquez Not Happy After Doctor Confirms a Bicep Tear Injury

Former four division champion Juan Manuel Marquez is not a happy man, because he didn't receive any good news when he met with his doctor at the beginning of this week. Marquez was having an issue with left arm, thought to be a shoulder injury, but it was revealed to be a bicep tear - which is going to cost him at least three to four weeks in recovery time before he can resume training.

43 years old, hasn't fought in 3 years, body falling apart every time he tries to train he cant make it through a few weeks without an injury. Give it up and just officially retire.

I don't know what his financial status is, but I would guess it's pretty good. So good that he can afford to give his family a really great life. He should just just retire. Nothing to be ashamed of, he's 43 going on 44 in 2 months, not too many athletes can fight at that age at the top. He just needs to look at Roy Jones Jr, Michael Jordan, Chavez Sr, Pernell Whitaker, Ken Griffey Jr, Ali, Louis, Wayne Gretzky, SRLeonard, none of these athletes could perform at the top at age 43. The few that could were just exceptions that he shouldn't try to follow if his body is telling him no.

As long as he doesn't suffer an injury that needs multiple months recovery time, he might still have one or two more rodeos in him. Keep the legs and body in shape, heal the bicep for a month, then try it out against an easy opponent, and if you're 100%, try one more camp for a big fight, and hope you still healthy. This doesn't sound like a terrible injury. The knee sounded worse but if the knee is healed for now then the biggest obstacle to him fighting is still out of the way.

Cotto and Marquez, please retire, i know that if i was a successful boxer on the way out I wouldn't mind a cash out fight for a couple of millions, but they are trying so hard to stay relevant but it is impossible, boxing is in constant movement, with great young fighters on the rise and at half year this is already one of the best years in boxing in a long time so fans wouldn't lose their minds for them.
Fan of both, atg's and future hall of famers but there are only a few boxers in history bigger than boxing.
