Maybe if he'd had been there in Canada with his fighter and not flying in the day of the fight his "fighter" might not have gotten embarrassed. Hunter is the most overrated trainer in boxing.

These combat sports are substitutes for the Gladiators and bare knuckle fights of old, so obviously people gonna want their fare share of blood. Sure it can't be allowed to become as gruesome as those events were, but it also has to be a somewhat worthy substitute. People watch boxing for skill yes, but they also watch it to see people get hurt.

If people are protected from getting hurt, than half or more of the fans won't pay to watch.

you are so right, if he they want to throw the towel, please do it in small halls not when you are getting thousands of pounds to witness an excution like Khan vs Canelo, mismatch but you see a horrid knockout, nothing less is expected

Although only a few people have comented, I'm surprised by some of them. Fonfara was taking some hellacious shots and didn't have the ring IQ to stop taking them. Hunter absolutely did the right thing because Fonfara had no shot at winning and would have been KO'd. There was legitimately no point because he didn't even have a puncher's chance. I'm not really a blood thirsty kind of gym, but I do like to see the extent of boxer's fighting skills. I don't know anyone who seriously wants a boxer to be permanently injured. However, when someone's goal is to kick your ass, there may be an expectation that you give a little more. I know there is a financial/health aspect to it, but there is also a pride/honor aspect to it. Some boxers just don't have the will that we expect from them and that's where the disappointment and crap talking come in... Maybe I'm wrong though.

People are saying that Virgil is overrated. However, many boxers are and other trainers flocking to him to get his advice and tutelage. Most notably, Danny Jacobs went to Virgil's gym to get insight for the GGG fight and he performed extremely well. Amir Khan was performing well against Canelo until he deviated from the gameplan and we all know how that ended. Hunter isn't in the news all the time and there isn't crazy hype around him. There's no reason to think that he is overrated really.

Virgil knew Fonfara was a skinny weak limited talent boxer

Virgil is smart who trained average weak Fonfara to get an inside look at Stevenson who Andre Ward might have to face soon enough. Fonfara is far from a top light heavy contender as Joe Smith proved. Fonfara was fortunate Virgil saw that Fonny was outclassed and hurt badly and pulled the plug to save Fonny. Virge got paid all the same after two rounds. Smart man that Hunter.
