When a fighter like Stevenson literally goes 4 years without fighting anyone of any true relevance, it's pretty obvious who is to blame, and it's not every single fighter of consequence in your division.

Hard to believe that he has been the lineal champ for 4 years! Even harder to believe that he fought Fonfara twice during this time and that he is already 39 years old. Either way, assuming Ward wins the rematch with Kovalev, I am almost certain that negotiations with Stevenson will be a nightmare with both guys angling for the a side. Ward's resume and willingness to fight Kovalev twice will probably earn him the bigger slice of the pie.

yes its not all his fault just mostly. after kovalev pulled out he offered him the fight for the same 5050 split but stevenson preferred to fight bums for years instead of taking the fight. he knew he could use the well kovalev pulled out of the purse bid excuse to continue ducking the fight and some people would only pay attention to that

Not true. They offered 50/50 ONLY on HBO. Meaning, instead of fighting on the network who makes the best offer, it's HBO or nothing. That's the part that gets left out of the story. So he didn't duck a 50/50 fight. He turned down a take it or leave it offer.

Actually it WAS Stevenson's fault because he demanded a purse bid or he wouldn't fight. Kovalev's team was the one that was willing to set up a PPV fight with HBO for both of them. Stevenson said no. Stevenson said he wanted a purse bid despite knowing that Kovalev was contractually bound to HBO. Stevenson was not contractually bound to Showtime.
