  • Comments Thread For: Frank Warren on Brook Removing Himself From Spence Bout

Kell Brook going out on his knee against Errol Spence jnr in Sheffield at the weekend has divided opinion and created plenty of debate in boxing circles. I, for one, would much rather be discussing whether he quit or not than be entering into a period of soul searching in the wake of a potential life-changing injury. Of course, viewers who are not in the habit of scoring fights as they go along were possibly lulled into thinking Brook was on the verge of retaining his IBF title with the Sky Sports cheerleading in full swing and, increasingly, Tony Bellew is becoming the only sane voice!

Every fighter now has a blueprint to beat Kell Brook. Hit him. He can box he just can't fight. He needs to retire and take up something safer for him like ballroom dancing.

Warren makes a good point here. Whether Brook took a knee or not, there was no way he was going to win that fight.

If he hadn't had that injury vs GGG, and been told by the surgeon he was just a couple more punches away from going blind, I don't think he would have quit against Spence.

He would probably have got KO'd, possibly have managed to survive to the end, but there was no way he could have won.

Still a fan of Brook no doubt without those fractures he would have tried to go the distance vs GGG and Spence even with the injuries he fought back just like his rally in the 10th vs Spence after the knockdown

Either way Spence was the better fighter and deserved the win I don't know where Brook goes from here his eyes mean he wont ever be at the top again imo maybe him and khan need each other since khan cant compete at the top either with his glass mandible and glass neck Spence and Thurman will smash him to pieces

I dunno about Bellew being the only sane voice, but one things for sure. Carl Froch shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a scorecard. The Allen Thomas fight had the most biased, misleading commentary I've ever heard.

"Removing himself?" WTF Warren's careful not to use the word quit, but of course that's what Brook did.
All quit means is to stop. Kell stopped fighting because he was hurt, he was down and he feared for his eyesight. That seems pretty sensible to me.

Do you know what I'm enjoying the most from seeing all these low-key ignorant racist Kell Brook fanboys? Not the hypocrisy as amusing as it is. It's the excuses.

They have all become advocates for health all of a sudden.

Why are you idiots watching boxing exactly when it's a proven scientific fact that a single punch can kill, blind and leave lasting brain damage?

Also a scientifically proven fact that ALL boxers that leave the sport do so with some brain damage. Some more than others.

Shouldn't you advocates for health be campaigning against boxing trying to get it banned instead of watching it, enjoying it right up until your favourite suspect bum beating fighter gets hurt, takes a knee, looks for help from the corner and referee then QUITS. LOL!! This is hilarious.

Couldn't even sell out in his hometown. A couple of completely empty stands.

I know why they're hurting really.

Kell Brook - "This Errol Spencer kid is just another Jeff Lacey".

Kell Brook - "He's going to have to kill me to take my belt".

Kell Brook - "I won't be able to show my face in Sheffield if I lose my belt at home to this Spencer kid".

I'll save the funniest one for last.

Kell Brook "I can't get up for guys like Errol Spence"...yeah, pal. We all saw how you couldn't get up off that knee LMFAO!!

Kell did what he had to do. Nobody was going to stop that fight and he was getting busted up. He couldn't outbox or outrun Spence, like he did Carson Jones and the damage was getting worse by the second. I don't blame him, but it's a one time pass. He should retire.

Back in 2000 at the Wembley Conference Centre, Danny Williams refused to countenance pulling out against Mark Potter after sustaining a dislocated shoulder in a British and Commonwealth title fight. I wanted him to call it a night, but he boxed for something like three rounds with the injury and somehow managed to force a sixth round stoppage.
That was a great fight, amazing actually:
