This is true - Kovalev clinched a lot too, like a lot of soviet fighters he isn't comfortable at close quarters.

And getting hit with sneaky punches while being tire.

I am not saying that Ward doesn't hold because it is obvious it is in his game plan, but a lot of fighters because he so slick and hit with sneaky punches that they don't expect initiate the clinch.

That's one of the worst things I've ever seen. Kessler was much nicer about the post fight interview than I would have been. Ward has prevailed by one tactic- blatant cheating.

Well I thought Kovalev edged the last fight out close, had it 6 rounds a piece. But that aside - yes Ward's decline sways things in Kovalev's direction, but I was very impressed with Kovalev's skills from the outside, I didn't think his domination of lesser fighters would translate to Ward in this respect, but it did. His main weakness is that he is only super effective at range, at any other distance his effectiveness has a sharp drop off, which is why Ward can hang with him, even if he is past his best.

Legacy wise I think Kovalev needs the win more than Ward.

                Then don't watch.

If his name were Andrej Wardovic your oily ass would call him a genius.

2 of his best opponents are Kessler(version that beat Froch) and Kovalev.

in both fights, he fouled to a ridiculous degree.

his inside game is garbage. Has he finished any fighters with inside body work? no..... it's pure grappling and holding and hitting. completely illegal tactics.
He has no inside game. Duran had inside game. Hell he was a master. I don't see why some refuse to acknowledge the difference. Clinching is not inside game. Wrestling is not inside game. Finding openings in close is inside game. Ward is a fraud with only one skill- cheating.

eh? didnt he complain about the deliberate headbutts and constant holding, and the 'home cooking and reff' and then go on the say Ward was the dirtiest fighter he ever fought?

Ward moved up in weight and fought a puncher.

Maybe that's what you see as losing a step.

Kovalev won't go near a puncher in his own division.

                      Just look at his resume..

                      0 punchers

                      NONE

                      Nada.
